New Monitor & Graphic Card combination for Xmas

Probably not the best time to be buying these, but needs must...

Budget: Around £500; less is good, but could stretch as well.

Location: In Study, about 2-3' away.

Use: A bit of everything, but not 3PS gaming. Lots of web; online/offline video; RPGs and strategy games; plus work (MS Office).

Period: probably to last 3 years or so

Thoughts: I'd probably prefer NVidia at the moment as they seem to use less power and I prefer less noise, and I think that a huge screen would be a waste. Don't want built-in speakers.

    What do you guys think?
