    Problems with double monitors

I've baught a new monitor today from acer and it works fine when I plug the hdmi however when I try to connect it from dvi it doesn't work, I'm connecting both monitors to my graphics card one through hdmi other through dvi howver I baught a adapter as I don't have any vga ports in my graphics card. So the cable is a vga cable which the normal end is connected to the monitor and the other side is connected through te adapter to a Dvi port in my pc

    Re: Problems with double monitors

If the port is dual-link DVI or DVI-D, then a VGA>DVI adapter will not work due to the port not accepting an analogue signal.

Is there a second DVI port on the gfx card to try? or a DVI or HDMI port on the monitor?

    Re: Problems with double monitors

From what I can tell, a lot (if not all) the 290 cards only have DVI-D

You would need an active converter, like : https://www.startech.com/uk/AV/Conve...x1200~DVI2VGAE

And at £40, I would consider paying a bit extra and replacing the monitor!

Yes, if you turn the iGPU on, you should be able to do dual monitor with one on the dGPU and the other on the iGPU

Dual Link doesn't exclude the VGA pins, you can have a socket that's both DVI-I and Dual Link.

Additionally, if it is a DVI-D port the holes for the DVI-A pins should be blocked off and it shouldn't be possible to connect the adapter.

    Re: Problems with double monitors

I have a port in my monitor DVI-D and in my monitor DVI-D I only needed to buy a cable for it to work instead of playing around with adapters ^^.
