Yeah, that's about right. And when you start getting bonus, a 500k WU is usually worth something around 2400 points, maybe around 2000 if you take a bit longer.

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

use the new gpu3 folding client, making sure you remove any old gpu2 client carefully!! unfortunately it's only a system tray client atm, no console client but whatever

gpu3 i've found is MUCH better at being a low priority process in terms of gpu, even HD video works while it's folding

then fold away, mine does around 9000 ppd, never going above 53 degrees which is incredible

I installed the GPU3 client but according to Afterburner GPU usage is <5%.

    I would imagine so.

I used CCleaner and ran a registry cleanse before installing.

When you finish 10 work units, every work unit's credit increases from, say, 481, to around 2000, depending on the speed you finish them at (might be a bit more; here I'm talking about the 500k work unit).

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

I don't know if anyone else has noticed or mentioned this; the SMP guide post #1 of this thread is out dated, the new SMP2 client doesn't use MPICH and is far easier to set up.

    My own quick guide here.

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

Thanks for the updated guide DDY... I'll set about the install once I've got my new rig.

I've got to say that as a new member of Hexus, I was completely baffled by what folding at home was, what it entailed or what the purpose of the group is... the initial post doesn't actually say anything about helping medical research, it relies on the user clicking on a number of different links before stumbling across a page that gives a description. In my most humble of opinions, it might help gain a few more members if there was more of an introduction to the topic...

I'm afraid to say that guide is two years out of date!

Although, there's good news; folding is actually much easier now with the new 'V7' client, it's pretty much a unified point and click GUI for regular, SMP and GPU folding.

    Download the new client here

Now the hard bit is choosing a username; more info here

what's the linux client like? easy to set up? looking at creating a NAS which could hopefully run it in background, possible GPU as well (make us of an old one)

CPU folding is almost as easy on Linux as it is on Windows with the new-ish V7 client and its GUI, in the past you'd have to make do with a third party GUI or run it in terminal - still dead easy to do though.

GPU folding however, is not easy to setup. It involves running the Windows client on Wine and the setup is quite longwinded, but well documented. So while GPU folding on Linux it isn't officially supported, it can be done with relative ease by following instructions posted by F@H users on the internet.

Re: The new Hexus Teams - Setting up Folding at Home

    Hi all.
Just thought I should say hello as this my first post on the hexus forums.
Been reading them for a long time and finally got round to joining.
Anyway the main point of this post is I also joined team hexus F@H, I was
folding for cpc&bitech but I have really started to dislike the forums over there.
