    Welcome to all NEW FOLDERS

    Hi people.

Thanks for volunteering to use your Radeon Graphics card (X1900 class) to help Folding@Home

    It's really easy.

    You need:

    # DirectX9 latest version installed. (Some previous versions missed a critical file, and when you run Folding@Home it'll tell you if it's not working)

    # Radeon's proper Catalyst drivers, latest versions, from AMD/ATI's site (not Omega drivers...sorry) http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

    # Folding@Homes softare from here http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

you need the one called "Windows XP/VistaGPU client GUI version 5.91 beta5"
http://folding.stanford.edu/release/...a5-GPU-GUI.exe (though I cant make it open from my link ) it's the 4th one down

    Download it....and run it.
It'll unpack and the little red cog or gear icon is the thing that makes it start. Keep it on your desktop so you can activate it easily.

To join us, you need to think of a name (use your HEXUS name, or as close as possible) and our team number is 69776

Once it's running you get the little red cog in the bottom right of your desktop and you can right click it to make changes or see your stats, and the team stats. Most important is "Allow Receipt of Work Assigments and Return of receipts larger than 5mb" tick that little box.

And that's it...when it runs it takes a while to get a work load, then if you hover over the red cog icon in your task bar, it tells you how far you are through.

25,000 thingys and it's done. Should take you less than 24 hours. Wait until it starts ANOTHER batch of 25,000 before deciding whether you stop .... or stay and help us

    THANKS for joining

Re: Welcome to all NEW FOLDERS

Thanks Zak, I will do this when I get in tonight and leave it running over night.

Any ideas on heat levels, im guessing it runs the card at full whack?

Yes, card runs more or less full whack and gets hot - I think it even enters 3d speeds even though it's not in fullscreen mode.

Forgive me if I am missing something but why the requirement for that graphics card? There are versions of the client software that will run in console mode, and - unlike the grid project - versions that will run under MacOS and Linux.

Re: Welcome to all NEW FOLDERS

Because there is a version that runs directly on the GPU. None of the CPU clients can touch it for sheer processing power.

It's similar to the PS3 version, it also hammers through the data.

as stated /\ the GPU not the CPU mullers the stuff.....the way that card is designed, added to the fact that ATI were only too happy to he;p with drivers, makes it a 3d folding dream.

I have had a Quad core folding this stuff....and it doesnt touch the ATI
