Re: Headlines - It's Apple Vs. Microsoft at The British Technology Awards
Well depending on how much the follow the crowd, a few should be reasonably obvious.
Gadget of the Year Apple iPhone 3G i would have thought Music Technology Guitar Hero? It's a bit of a misleading category, since they're not exactly similar products. If it was music playback then they'd probably go for iTunes - even though WMP11 is superior imo. And how exactly is a retailer music technology? Best Home Entertainment Technology Nintendo Wii - got to be really. Best Kids Technology Ok well this one depends on what their priorities are. If they have thick and ignorant parents then Bebo might just win it. But seriously, no. How the hell can you shortlist a 13+ rated website that has serious concerns for paedos as Best Kids Tech? Again, Nintendo DS, no contest out of that lot. The rest isn't exactly new tech.. Most Stylish Technology Well this one is debatable.. The MacBook Air is pretty stylish, but a good product? I can see Apple winning out here, as the iPhone is likely i think. Best Gaming Technology Finally! A list that ACTUALLY CORRESPONDS TO THE TITLE. Again, if it's gaming technology then i'd suspect the Wii or Wii Fit to win it. Guitar Hero i can see why it's there, but FSX? In a battle against consoles? Best Mobile Technology Right, another more or less ok one. Google Mobile? If they mean Android, i didn't think that was actually out yet.. Again i would hope the masses went with the DS. Again, priorities? How can they claim that it's for "what people on the street think" and "not for geeks" and then have specific mobile phones that Joe Bloggs probably isn't even going to have? Most Indispensable Technology Facebook no contest. I'll confess this one made me laugh. BT Broadband as most indispensable. Not just broadband generally, but BT broadband, ahm one second guys.. ![]() Technological Innovation of the Year I can see the Air winning this one, it's certainly innovation. Again, the iPhone might beat out, but it's actually a reasonably competitive list. Best Online Technology This one is hard. Simply it's going to be Youtube and Facebook imo. So depending on who they ask really. Although the iPod could win out there. iPlayer is certainly innovation, but it can't compete with the likes of the tube really can it? There's also 4oD which is more full featured than iPlayer which wasn't voted for. Retailer of the Year Maplins eh? And we're not marketing this vote to geeks, no sir. Not at all. Greenest Technology of the Year O..k..Well the only way i can see OS's winning is if they have some seriously good power management - all of which completely depends on what the user picks And if you're chucking in a few 9 series cards with SLi, then it's hardly going to make much difference if your screen turns off every 30 minutes. Possibly the Prius, but it's all a little iffy on this one.Right, i really don't get what these awards are supposed to show. Some of their shortlists are just barmy, unrelated and just plain daft. If they're trying to say that they took a varied selection of the British public and asked them these questions, and this is what they came up with, i'd tell them to take a running jump. I mean there's no way you could take the awards seriously when you look at what the winners had to compete against.. |
