HEXUS.review:: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Rockstar are back with yet more fuel for the tabloid press with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This time around the game focuses on the gangland culture of the early nineties and gives you more of the car jacking, shooting and mission based fun of it's predecessors.

You play the role of Carl Johnson, or CJ, as you’re called by all the characters in the game. After spending 5 years away from Los Santos, in the Liberty City of GTA:VC no less, you return for your mother’s funeral. Sadly, she’s been murdered and it’s up to you to put things right.

Check out the full review here.

    Word.

I'm not trying to be pickey, but I really don't understand the quote below. Isn't Liberty City Different from Vice City?

Did you have to play through pretty much the whole game to do the review as you were talking about Toreno (the part where I'm up to).

I think it's an amzing game, and tbh, have trouble finding many faults with it. I don't see any problem with the camera (except when you're in a plane/helicopter) as you control it with your mouse. I think that they could maybe have improved the way we change clothes and do other stuff like that though. It takes ages just for CJ to try some clothes on to see what he looks like.

Anyway - another brilliant review .

P.S. Why have you spelt "colour" the american way?

    Gah, getting my TLAs confused...

Anyway, it is a brilliant game... a little bit of 'more of the same' compared with Vice City but there seemed to be less fun stuff around such as the insane stunts... in Vice City there were loads of places to throw yourself off and in San Andreas there seem to be far less of them around.

The camera issue is at its worst with the plane and copter for sure but I find it a problem with the ground based vehicles too... seeing around a corner you're going to turn is a right pain... but you do get used to it but I still think that Vice City handled it better.

By Colors do you mean the page title? Well that was the name of the film... notice that all the page titles bar the first one are classic 'hood movies?

Ah - I didn't realise. Everyone else seems to be a bigger film buff than me .

    What's a TLA?

I haven't played the other GTA's on the PC yet, and haven't finished any of them on the PS2 at all, so I can't really compare the camera angles and the like to them. After I finish SA, I'm hoping to get the other 2 for PC and do them as well.

The music was far better in VC - that should be good.

    TLA = Three Letter Acronym

GTA: VCs music is better out of all three games I think... it fits the era perfectly.

GTA 3 is probably best for just driving around, nicking cars and then hurling them off insane jumps.

but GTA: SA gives the best overall game, I reckon.

    San Andreas is great

Nicely summed up their Nick as usual waxing lyrical about everything and even pointing out the less than finer points.

I agree with the dodgy camera while flying - its a right PITA ( thats a FLA ) and causes me to crash all the time. (yes.. its the camera, not my rubbish flying skills)

Theres also the car driving where with some cameras its like driving with blinkers on again... crashing does not show my true driving ability

As for costumes, I just type the code in to get the "kinky" theme and have him running around like Zeds little companion in Resivour Dogs.

Obviously this games not for kids, but the swearing in this is more common than Manchester United fans in Kent (sheep the lot of them) with more F words littered in this game than what you would hear from Nick when he has his "static trainers" on

    Fo' Shizzle indeed my bro'
