GameShadow - a gamers dream?
We sit down with Tony Treadwell and Nicholas Lovell from GameShadow and find out just what their new bit of software offers for gamers. Is it possible that hassle-free patching is here at last?
Check out our in-depth GameShadow Feature over on HEXUS.gaming. |

I tried it after installing it with Bet on A Soldier. TBH I was supprised at how efficient it was, even patching old gamed like Dungeonkeeper II & RTCW.

I can see why some people would find this useful..but tbh it just encourages developers to get/stay lazy with their patching process. For example, Westwood's CnC series had a great auto patching system, and it wasnt mandatory like with annoying systems such as steam, if you wanted to get a patch you just clicked 'update' and it would check for you. Worked like a dream.
Valves old (pre steam) system was great, they had a half-life update system that didnt work great, but their manual patches were fine, most importantly logically labled eg 1.0.4.1-1.0.5.1-hl.exe is clearly upgrading from version 1.0.4.1 to 1.0.5.1.....not rocket science. If all developers either included their own none-mandatory auto-update software (and a fair few do) or simply labled their patches correctly there would be no-need for GameShadow.. still for those people too lazy to do it themselves it might be worth using

Macbook, 1.8ghz Core Duo, 2GB Ram, Superdrive iPhone 2G 2.0.1 "Is it a coincidence that an anagram of gordon brown is "born do wrong" ?, I rest my case. Last edited by Spud1; 14-10-2005 at 08:15 AM.. |
