    HEXUS.gaming :: The First 15 : Quake 4

    The Quake series has to be one of the top three FPS franchises of all time, alongside Doom and Half Life. The original defined all that an FPS should be, spawning a slew of shooters that defined one of the most popular genres ever to hit the PC. So with a pedigree such as the Quake games have, Quake 4 is one of the most eagerly anticipated shooters this year. Here’s our first impressions…

    And you'll have to go to HEXUS.gaming to find out what they are...

    Its far from brown !

    Looks just like Doom 3 but better, not so plasticy looking characters and outdoor sections are well lit with the war going on over youre head.

    Nothing new but its very addictive and just plain fun to play, you also have a gun mounted flashlight !

    Yeah, it sure isn't brown.

    Think Doom 3 but better lit... In fact, all those bits of machinery moving about in the scenery might as well have 'Courtesy of Doom 3' stickers on them... still a shame you can't do anything but look at them... even if it were something as stupid as the machine killing you if you leapt at it, but no, it's invisible barrier time on that one.

    And not being able to shift debris and proprs around is a bit of a let down. There's all theses crates lying about, it'd be nice to ahve been able to pick them up and shift them around... ho hum...

    Hmm they still havn't fixed those crappy(IMO) quality textures. Well I guess I'll be picking it up in a few months when the price drops.

    See System Specs.

    I'm looking forward to this. ID don't really onnovate on gameplay, but do create some impressive engines. I don't really care if they do nothing new gameplay wise though - I've always found their games to be fun, even Doom 3, which got slated a lot, and still does.

    It had everything that it promised - demons, shadows, big guns and gore. Hopefully this will be the Quake equivalent of that. Sounds like it will be from what I've read.

    Skin if you were a fan of Quake 2 this is as close as you will get just with a D3 engine Bit easy even on the hardest setting but a great game. I aint even tried the Multiplayer side of it yet, taking the single player bit by bit.

    Excellent. Just need to get my 6800 card before I start playing then - my 9800 pro can't cope at my tfts native res of 1280x1024.

    Q4 needs to look pretty I reckon.
