Japanese electronics group Sony has delayed the release of its Playstation 3 (PS3) video game console.

Technical hitches related to the console's Blu-ray movie disc drive had forced the delay, Sony said.

Sony video games chief Ken Kutaragi said the group was still trying to finalise agreements on developing copy protection technology.

As a result the PS3's launch has been put back to November from its original Spring launch date.

November is far too close to Christmas for decent stocks to build up. This will be a "OMG MUST HAVE" present, but there's no way everyone's getting one.

But if the final hardware spec is nailed as promised in June, would that not be enough time at a production rate of a million consoles a month?

It depends what the rush is like. Don't forget a lot of people will be looking at what happened with the 360 and buying several purely to make money off on eBay.
