    eBay blocks PS3 sales

Sanity reigns at the online auction site as eBay, according to Associated Press, have implemented a number of controls that will, hopefully, stop gamers getting ripped off and prevent the greedy from making money out of others’ desperation.

Read more in this eBay Headline.

    Finally, eBay does something right

The American eBay site has gone utterly bananas, with machines already reaching $2500-3000

Edit: Currently there is a 20GB machine going for $2500, and a 60GB for $2800..

I think that those with the money to do so should be able to pay over the odds for a PS3.

not only is it highly likely to be buggy, it is expensive too... a big no no for me (unless someone can lend me a few grand and some drugs)

    Good on eBay tbh

The people who have bought them to sell are stopping real fans and real people who want a PS3

TBH I feel rather ambivalent about this. One the one hand it's rampant profiteering based on the exploitation of a skewed market. On the other, I can't help feeling that anyone willing to pay over the odds for a PS3 is simply a fool who deserves to be parted from his money as swiftly as possible before they do something even more stupid with it.

imo it's no different from the way chelsea season tickets are a fortune these days. get a sellers market and prices will reach whatever folk are willing to pay. paying way over the odds doesn't NECESSARILY make you stupid.. it might simply mean you consider your time more valuable than that £500 or so.. to some people that sort of money is no more than they'd spend on a night out..

i actually bought my ps2 on release day with a plan to sell on ebay before xmas. then i played it, kept it, and its now been going for 6 years. woo!

My thoughts exactly. If I was queueing up and some guy walked by with one, perhaps bragging about how he was going straight home to eBay it I'd give him a quick Glasgee kiss, drop cash to cover price of the PS3 in the shops and take his new purchase home with me. And I saved him the eBay fees!

Sorry, although it's crazy PS3's going for that price the real driving force to me seems to be Sony trying to protect (in a very minute way) their billions of £'s profits.

It should be a free market for legal goods and ebay should allow the PS3 to sell. Where would you draw the line otherwise, you can't sell it it's over a certain % profit?

i don't think this is anything to do with sony. it looks to me like it is just ebay enforcing their own rules for buyer protection..

    http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200611.sh...06-11-16135514

ps3 IS able to be sold on ebay, but only in the market its from, within 30 days of it actually being available, and if the seller actually has a garanteed spot..

incidentally.. pre-orders are coming in february? damnit, i want to order mine sooner :|
