EDIT: Hmm having problems joining a group, I'm guessing when you click on join group in IE/FF, steam is meant to deal with the rest like it does with adding friends?

yeah, I think the (steam) program handles part of it and the website handles the other.

Not sure. I think you have to go online and accept. Both of those who are listed are online at present.

Can someone explain the bit advantage of this new updated friends system? What's the purpose of a group? Does it just effectively make everyone in that group your friend of something?

I hink it is more for clans, but does allow you to organise events etc within your group.
