    Hexus Gaming News.

So whats happening with the Gaming news? E3 was last week, the biggest gaming event of the year, yet Hexus seem late to be posting information. Monday started well, news posts at every major title and a decent round up of the MS Press conference. After that its was all downhill.

Sony. A simple round up that seemed to miss everything that was important. PSP Go release date & price. GT PSP release date. FFXIV announced. Probably more. Yet no other news posts.

Nintendo. A decent round up but that was it. Yet no other news posts.

Yet this week we get a handful of "news" posts, except that none of them were actually new, all having been announced or shown at E3 last week. Is Hexus scaling down their gaming coverage?

Was anyone else let down by the coverage of E3 this year, or is it just me? I like reading the news here, but if the news is going to be a week old i'll stop reading.

I guess I see Hexus as a technology news and reviews site primarily. Gaming has always been a periphery part of Hexus.

True, but 'if you're going to do something, do it well'. I have to admit, I don't take much notice of it and usually react with surprise when an article appears.

I guess I find most games news on Tom's, reviews on IGN and Zero Punctuation , but if Hexus did news releases more regularly I probably would follow it - that would surely be far less of an undertaking in comparison to reviews.

    Re: Hexus Gaming News.

With Prototype looking a let down and Fallout 3 and all the DLC being my drug, I took no notice of E3.

I like looking at all the new hardware and other PC news. Despite not being really tech knowledgeable, it does not stop me drooling over new components or dreaming of future upgrades. For gaming there are other places that do it better IMO

Yes Hexus is known for its technology reviews and news, but why should it stop there? They have a gaming section, with gaming news and Steven W heads up that part of Hexus. For whatever reason E3 seemed to get forgotten, and now a week later we start getting a trickle of information, but can it now be called news? after all its old hat, every other site has moved on.

    Re: Hexus Gaming News.

I do not think I have ever known Hexus to really focus in great deph about gaming the way PC Gamer would.

I think the best thing about Hexus is that Hexus do a lot stuff that brief news and people go in depth about it with thier POSTS. Which is good to hear many opions. HEXUS Hardware reviews are excellent. Especially with PC cases. You should start a thread on it. I am sure many have a lot that caught their eye they could share

Are you both suggesting that Hexus should go into as much depth as the specialist sites for every aspect that it touches on? That'd make Hexus into a gigantic comglomerate of everything from IGN to the Financial Times.. and would need an absolutely enormous staff base unlikely to be able to be supported by ads alone - even sites concentrating on single areas need subscribers sometimes, and Hexus would need it even more.

No I'm not suggesting that. All I'm saying is that the news section for games should actually be news, you have to remember that Hexus have a dedicated employee for Gaming. (In fact he took over from Nick) All I'm saying is that if you have a news section it should be news, and not old news. What is the point otherwise? The least i expect is major announcements, the Sony ones were completely missed from the E3 coverage.

    Re: Hexus Gaming News.

If people want better game reviews and the like or gaming news then you could maybe offer your service's for free in order to help populate the news sites, however I don't think Hexus would let anyone and everyone just to plonk news up.

But what I'm saying is that one person can't possible cover all the news in the world related to gaming and post carefully crafted articles about it all the second it happens - I agree that major events should have some coverage, but I expect it to take a while to write up.

I don't think the point of Hexus.gaming news is to provide world leading upto date information - there are other sites for that, but to provide the odd bits of news that they think are relevant to the Hexus readership.

You was doing so well up until this point A week later than everywhere else, would that be relevant to the Hexus readership? People will go else where and not bother with Hexus Gaming, leading to fewer people reading and posting on the Forums. Not what Hexus need.

Yes - assuming Hexus peeps are mostly interested in Hexus' main area of technology, then exact timing of game news isn't going to be that important - that we still get the idea of a new mario game or whatever within a week is more than good enough, espcially when it's still not going to have been released by then.

People will go else where and not bother with Hexus Gaming, leading to fewer people reading and posting on the Forums. Not what Hexus need.
The only people to go elsewhere will be those interested only in gaming, and surprise surprise their interests would be better served by them going to a specialist gaming site rather than Hexus, because Hexus isn't aiming to be a specialist gaming site.
