Thread: Minecraft?

    Re: Minecraft?

So much for my initial elation at getting a quarry - powering it is turning out to be more problematic than I expected. A 60x60 quarry running off 2 TE steam engines is sloooooow and keeping it running currently involves a tower of chutes full of charcoal above each engine!

I think my next project involves tesseracts, a pump in the nether, a massive tank and several magmatic engines...

    Re: Minecraft?

You want an energy tesseract connected to the quarry

quarry is 32MJ/t at maximum speed
    Steam/Stirling Engine is 1MJ/t

The real fun thing is that the most powerful engine is actually the Blulectric engine which max out a 32MJ/t but trying to generate 32kw by Blutricity is not easy

I think the best bet overall is a Redstone Energy Cell, charge that up by any and all means, then take it to the quarry and run it off the cell, when it's drained take it back to recharge.
edit: remember to limit the cube output, it can be controlled and over output will be wasted
Also start off with a couple of default size quarries to get materials first to build the power system for a big quarry.

    Re: Minecraft?

Way I did it on my single player FTB world was with tesseraacts

Go nether, setup pump for lava and put into tessaract
    Output into a huge tank
Then run magmatic engine's from it, to create redstone energy

    ALL DA POWA!!

P.S hopefully be on for an hour or so tonight

    Re: Minecraft?

Yup, my plan is a combination of the 2 posts above, nether pump -> liquid tesseracts -> tank for lava, then magmatic engines -> energy tesseracts -> quarry. Then quarry -> item tesseracts -> storage of some form (eventually ME network).

Then moving the quarry becomes easy; 2 tesseracts, the quarry itself and some landmarks, job done. Making the 6 tesseracts is going to be dangerous though - any volunteers for hunting down 24 ender pearls?!

    Re: Minecraft?

for a cheaper build you could use ender tanks in place of the liquid tesseracts and ender chests in place of the item tesseracts
still need the energy tesseracts though, which is why I suggested the cube instead

    Re: Minecraft?

Finally ready for the moon, making the rocket takes a lot of stuff, but not as much as all the other stuff you need to make to go up there.

One of the few buffs in Gregtech is that the quarry can use upto 100MJ/t but with diminishing returns as you feed it more power. That said, it will quarry faster than you can run if you can keep it powered! I murdered enough endermen last night to get 1 set of tesseracts so I'm emptying the nether into a tank. 8 magmatic engines are in place (for now), awaiting the second pair of tesseracts.

Good luck with your moon shot! How far are you off getting to mars?!

    Re: Minecraft?

I thought that was a bug with the quarry, in that it will suck in more power than it actually uses, even so at 32mj/t it moves faster than you walk, but not as fast as running, so a max size quarry only takes a couple of hours to dig out.

Oh and correction 32mj/t is to move it at max speed, it also needs power to break blocks, so if it's moving one block for each break then it's maxed out at 48mj/t

However you're correct gregtech messes with the numbers so it's 100mj/t to max it out (ie you need twice the power to run it at the same speed as a non-gregtech quarry)

The moonshot went, I had a slight issue in that I landed at night, night on the moon on hard is evil and it seems my capsule (and thus my rocket) got destroyed by mobs, luckily I had link book with me so I could make a way to get back and an unlinked book too so now I've got working moon portal books.

couple of minor issues, there's flowers spawning on the moon surface (known bug with biomes-o-plenty) and the map webpage doesn't show the moon correctly, all it's showing is the blocks I've placed and the wood paths of moonvillages

One overall problem with glacticraft is a lack of things to do on the moon other than to fight the dungeon boss for the recipe for the teir2 rocket to get to mars, where you can fight a dungeon boss for a non-functioning teir3 recipe

edit: on complex thing about power in minecraft, esp build craft, is tick, engines provide bursts of power per cycle, so don't supply a constant mj/t they supply an average mj/t where as most machines use a fixed mj/t or mj/operation.
Most machines have an energy buffer to help smooth this out, however most energy storage devices supply a constant mj/t output
The other confusing factor is how many ticks per second, minecraft has two tick rates I know of, 10 per second = redstone tick rate and 20 per second world tick rate
And I'm not sure what machines use which tick rate.

    Re: Minecraft?

I thought I was there, I really did... Everything in place to craft a matter fabricator, except the lapotronic energy orb wouldn't craft.

Turns out there's more than 1 type of Iridium plate, and the lapotronic energyorb needs the more expensive one. So now I need to find 5 more iridium, make another multiblock machine (implosion compressor) and get a ton of gunpowder. Dammit Greg!

GregTech is very hard, but most of the stuff is worth it and it prevents you becoming end game after five days

I've not checked on it recently, been playing Diablo since the new patch. I was just starting on Mystcraft stuff when I got distracted, and there's probably a stack of UU matter in the matter fabricator now (to make even more solar!). I need to divert some of the treefarm output to my recyclers I think to keep the matter fabricator stocked up with scrap.

    Ahh fair enough.

I'm going to try and get on tonight, if not tonight hopefully Saturday or Sunday, see if I can come up with something to build too...
