DLC is definitely being abused by some devs, but the core idea of DLC is a good one. Sadly for your brother, Bungie have used DLC to create a 'Pay-to-Win' enviroment.

You cannot go back!
You start in a level and you are playing along... up comes a cutscene and you just cannot go back to the beginning of the level if you backtrack your steps.
I miss the headache that old games gave. You come to a junction and you can go left or right. After going right, you come to another junction and then another one. Oh, now you need a key ... wonder which junction I forgot to go to LOL
Limited lives per level. What's with this Autosave crap ?
Unfortunately I feel a lot of games have been ruined with micro transactions whether it be for DLC or otherwise. If a company is going to give a entirely new life into a game by releasing content that is really high quality then I don't see why I shouldn't pay a little for it. I refuse however to pay for pay to win games, although saying that even GTA V seems to be pay to win because you can buy in game $$$ for real life $$$$$
alot of modern games now have alot of swearing in, look at GTA V, I mean how can kids enjoy and play that the same as kids back in the day playing the original first GTA
I'm not sure I agree with the DLC side however I think they should release more games and less DLC, I don't want to pay more to play effectively the same game. They should spend some time on creating new games and make them last longer so that I don't need to buy DLC to extend the life of the game.
The worst thing about the new generation is that you have to download new updates and patches all of the time. I wanted to play halo at my friends house but I couldn't connect to live and launch it without downloading something like an 8GB update. My friend lives in a village with slow internet, the download took 3 days. If it wasn;t in the original release then the game must be able to play without the update.
Agreed that 2005 marked the end of the "Golden Era" of gaming, but 2007 also brought some really awesome games / franchises as well, Bioshock was jaw dropping good when it first came out, so was Gears of War etc.
But yeah, most games are garbage these days, Alpha games are the cancer of PC gaming at the moment!
DLC and microtransactions are the bane of gaming.
It's just pure greed on developers/publishers part.
Whats wrong with modern games ?
UNSKIPPABLE CUT SCENES AND INTROS !
good the first time you watch them, then its madly hitting esc / space / enter to try to get past them...
sorry, had to get that off my chest ...
What about forza 5....... the loading screen is a ****ing advert for DLC.
Oh god the 10 minute cut scene that is unskippable. They think it's artistic and aiding the story line. What's worse is you just know they've put that save point before the cut scene so that when you die you go right back and then have to endue it all over again. Aaaaaargh. Let me choose when I want to save please.
I also hate the games where you get the long cut scene after completing some section and then you are asked to pick from 4/5 different answers to a question, over and over and over and over again taking some 10 minutes just to get past it. Again they think that having some sort of dialogue gets the player involved because the outcome may be different depending on the answers, but after choosing each answer carefully for 40 questions my keyboard/keypad gets randomly mashed with frustration and anger in order to bypass the tedium or blindly A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A. I want to play the game god dammit not play 20 questions every 20 minutes!
And breathe. Puppies, kittens, small children laughing, sunshine, ice cream, yes nice things, think of the nice, calming things.
