    Grim Fandango Remastered

After 15 years of not being available it has finally landed!!

I pre ordered it from GOG last week and it is live and available now, Steam unlocks at 6pm tonight by the look of it and is a little more expensive.

Initial impressions are awesome, it is more fine tuned visually with even better lighting and the textures have been tidied up. They have kept the original 4:3 aspect on it but you can go up to 16:9 Widescreen but all this does is stretch the image so looks a bit funky. The 4:3 version though you can have it with black side bars or a noir style side bars which looks cool and makes it feel quite cinematic.

You can play with the original tank style controls or using point & click interface or camera dependent movement. I am playing it with my wireless 360 pad, small gripe with this though is that it has Playstation controller buttons on inventory etc Thankfully, and also if you have ever used a PS controller then you will know what buttons do what, it is pretty self explanatory

You can also flick between original textures and lighting by clicking the LB button to see what is different between then and now.

Music is absolutely superb, I believe most of it has been redone with a live orchestra, so what sounded great originally now sounds even better.

I am just loving it so far, they have got the balance just right with this remaster, staying true to the original roots of the game

    Re: Grim Fandango Remastered

Grab it from GOG, it is available right now and is cheaper than Steam

It is truly an epic game that draws you in with the setting and style, this game deserves the status it has and is a genuine all time classic.

    Re: Grim Fandango Remastered

Yeah I loved the original and when I heard this was getting remastered I got all excited (and then forgot about it, as you do). I'll have a look when I get home tonight... there goes my planned early night.

    Re: Grim Fandango Remastered

Wait, maybe I am remembering this wrong, but wasn't there a lot of fanfare that this remastered edition was going to be for PS4 only and not coming to the PC? I guess it's another exmaple of a "timed console exclusive" like Titanfall (or whatever it was that did the same). Not that I am complaing; it's a great game!

    Re: Grim Fandango Remastered

Yeah, it was announced for PS4 & Vita but no word of PC, then around a week later it emerged that it was landing on PC also.

I love the inventory line :

    Re: Grim Fandango Remastered

I never played the original but this caught my attention, then I heard some of the puzzles were, and still are, not that friendly.
How would you compare them to something like machinarium?

    Re: Grim Fandango Remastered

Different league completely in comparison to modern games, same goes with games like Full Throttle and the original Monkey Island games, some of them can be quite self explanatory and others are just out there with bizarre solutions.

This is one of those games though where by all means try and solve the puzzles but you can also safely use a spoiler free guide and just go through it and enjoy the story and ambiance. I have played through it many times in the past and still have to occasionally look at a guide when I have forgotten something.

There's a neat direct texture comparison in the RPS review between the "original mode" and the remastered version.
