Re: Trying to Help a Friend

Plenty of cheap gaming PCs, especially if you self-build with 2nd hand parts.
It just means you have to turn the game settings down, obviously. You're not going to get 4k resolution, or anything.

Re: Trying to Help a Friend

Like what Ttaskmaster say, you can still game on a low budget pc, just have to be less picky on the settings! There's so many budget components to choose from, and also maybe your friend could salvage the parts that are still working from his old pc?

I currently use a 780 Lightning, for example. You can find them for under £100 2nd hand!

Re: Trying to Help a Friend

Well, he had to sell all the working parts to get money up for the Nvidia Shield Pro.. but I think a PC would be much better I reckon.

But, as to gaming I suppose either would do. Only problem is that Nvidia is doing another Shield Android TV box. Not exactly sure if it's going to be the same price as is or more expensive.

Re: Trying to Help a Friend

    Hello Guys,

    I have something to ask..

The guy i am trying to help his old specs were:

    X58
    Intel 960
    AMD Radeon 6700HD 1GB
    H50 Cooler?
    600Watt psu
    HHD two Spinpoints 1TB - 2TB
    HHD WD Caviar Black 2TB

-His Sold His Old Working PC Components-

A Guy on eBay. has given me a option:

Gigabyte 990XA UD3 (there are 3 graphics slots one was broken ages ago when i tried to remove the graphics card and forgot to release the locking mechanism but the other 2 are fully intact and operational)
AMD FX 4100 4 Core CPU (overclocked to 4.2GHz)
    Corsair A50 CPU Air Cooler
    AMD R9 290 4GB Graphics card
    8GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz (2x4GB)
    Corsair CX600 - 600W PSU
    Thermaltake Versa N21 PC Case
    -
It will be the above mentioned components only no other components and the price is £210 as initially offered I will have a Corsair Force LS 120GB SSD drive that i can include for £25 only (sold one for £33.99 including postage in bids) if interested let me know.
In Fact i would highly advise to install windows on a SSD drive to truly bring out the performance potential of a PC, it is highly recommended.

On the FPS, in some areas the fps drops to the 30's or 40's range (still playable and i don't feel it) and in other areas the fps hit the max 120fps but mostly the average is in the 60's (give or take).

    Is his Personal Computer.

and selling a corsair force with 120GB SSD for £25

So all in all is £235?

    Is this Worth it.

~Also the guy Claims that he can play Fallout 4 on Ultra Except for shadows that are on medium and reduced objects and other viewing distances.

Re: Trying to Help a Friend

    Sounds ok-ish...
The best thing is to Google up some 2nd hand prices on each component and see what the same setup would cost from other sellers.

I'd personally want to collect in-person and see it working, though, so bear that in mind.

In that case, you're in the same boat as the rest of us with similar limitations - Take a chance, or go without and save up until you can afford what you want.

Price looks ok to me. If you can't see it you'll have to rely on his user profile. If he has a long history and its a good one then go for it. Otherwise I would steer clear.

I've seen screenshots but, worried about it as a whole and the PCIE Slot that's damaged.
Plus on how old it might be.

    Hi, just a update..

Guy sent me this message this morning:

I marked the graphics card slot in the image (find attachment)
Here is the link of the game play video i took using FRAPS.
    https://youtu.be/-I4fvqoqQp0

You will notice the fps are lower than i said and that is because while video capturing while playing reduce gameplay performance but it is still playable. The area where i started is called Nucleus and is heavy in the game i normally get fps in the high 30's or 40's in that area.

    What do you guys reckon?

    Thats a good starting point.

This is what I would get:

    1.)Core i3 6100 - £92.61 from Amazon

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

2.)8GB DDR4 -£29.75 from Crucial for the next two days

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/20-o...3-days-2514638

    3.)Refurbished H110 motherboard(3 months warranty) - £19.20 from Novatech

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...h110m-s2h.html

4.)Novatech Stealth Micro ATX PC Case - £16.99 from Novatech

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...ov-stelth.html

    5.)Corsair CX550M - £49.99 from Amazon

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-...%2Bsupply&th=1

    6.)Open box R7 260X 1GB(12 months warranty) - £67.76 from CCL Computers

    https://www.cclonline.com/product/21...Box-/VGA2356X/

The total comes to £276.30 - I could have gone with a cheaper PSU,but spending another £20 there is worth it long-term. A Pentium dual core would save some money, but some of the newer games tend to prefer 4 threads and FO4 is one of them, and if you decide to update the graphics card the Core i3 will be less of an issue.

Is the R9 290 faster than a R7 260X - most definitely yes,but the system I have specced is generally more up to date in the other areas. Your friend can always save up some more money and plonk in a better card at a later date.

[OFFTOPIC] Not to go off-topic Cat but I just want to say this is the umpteenth time I've seen you jump into these request threads, including my own, and put forth some seriously helpful information which has clearly taken you a bit of searching. Absolutely quality help and posts on a long-term consistent basis. Top notch and really impressed. Just wanted to say so. [/OFFTOPIC]
