Starting the Knights of the Nine mission - Oblivion

A quick tip for anyone who is thinking of downloading this expansion. I walked around for 1 hour trying to work out how to start the new quest. I was on the verge of giving up and contacting M/S to say my download hasn't worked.

It doesn't explain when you download it that you need to go to the chapel in Anvil and speak to the Prophet. I understand you can actually go to any chapel to start it, why they couldn't tell you this when you download it, I'll never know.

The prophet isn't actually in the chapel, but over the road in the garden.

I have this myself by havn't activated it yet, thanks for the heads up on what to do to get started. No doubt I will be tearing myself away from Neverwinter Nights 2 to actually finish the main campaign on Oblivion. Got around 3 gates to shut now round the towns as I've been trying to do everything as I go.

So far around 60 hours play and I am top of the mages guild and fighters guild, have the guy at the sky temple and have been assigned to closing all these gates beside the towns. Thing is they are all the same virtually with extra tunnels to make the levels longer, makes it a bit tedious unfortunately. Think I might close this gate I'm in and do a few of the other quests to break the monotony. Possibly do Wizards Tower etc.

Its quite annoying starting this quest. You have to stand there listening to the prophet and it will give you some topics for conversation. There are 4 in total the last one being about the eight. Once you have that one by listening to him he asks about yourself as a hero / champion. Select the bottom option stating that you are unknown and he gives you a map to shrines and explains about the pilgrimage.

I have found 2 of the shrines so far, bit of a dog to actually find as they arn't marked on the main map. So you have to decipher the hand drawn map against the towns on the main map. The top town is Bruma and off to its left is Chorrol. Follow the roads out from the towns and they are just off the path, one beside Chorrol head to the crossroad by Weynon Priory then head south. You will notice a slight pathway in the grass as if created by people walking on it. This will take you to Dibella. To find Akatosh follow the path west out of the southern gate in Bruma, you will pass a small cove and further down the road there is the shrine.

If you didn't notice it also to start the quest if you speak to a few people around the towns the rumours option will state that something really bad has happened at the chapel in Anvil. When you go there the guard outside the chapel says you don't want to go in there etc and mentions the prophet over in the garden.

Will update as and when I find the shrines

I've only found two so far, the trouble is as I'm wandering around looking for them I keep coming across new Forts that I hadn't discovered before so keep getting side tracked. Think this will be a long quest.

Incidentally, has any found a way around the Thieves Guild bug (the last mission in the library). I keep going back to it, but can't do it.

I've found 5 so far, they are quite awkward to spot with draw distance being set to medium on my PC so you can't spot them from a distance. I can't find the 2 that are down by Anvil and Kvatch, wandered around for a good 30 mins to try and find them but with no luck at all.

Just found a few maps that actually show you where they are, should help us all get on our way with it ! :

Re: Starting the Knights of the Nine mission - Oblivion

At least do one or two of the guilds before starting any expansion packs...

Having this on PC, I recently borrowed a friends disk for Shivering Isles.. got sidetracked from Main Campaign and haven't yet gone back to it. Expansion Packs are good.. but distract you a lot

Do Dark Brotherhood if you like killing people... you can run in and kill everything that moves or sneak around. It be fun.

Mages guild is useful even for fighters (I actually found this easier to do as a fighter rather than a mage... wierd I know but hey... who cares?) as you get access to the spellmaking/enchantment making things for 100% chameleon so you can run through the majority of the rest of the game if you cba to do it properly.

    Fun fun fun

Enjoy yourself is the only other instruction...

    Wooo.

Not played this game in a while. I never ran my 2 expansion packs. Was still playing the main game but completing all the guilds and side mission. This game is just so big.

    Itching to play this again

Re: Starting the Knights of the Nine mission - Oblivion

Go get modpacks if you do...

Oblivion itself, although good looking, can become a little tedious of the same sorta backgrounds. Grab the "make it look better" ones, and you'll have a much wider range of places to go to and a few new armour styles and stuff.

The ones that change what your weapon looks like are cool (can't remember names offhand.. I have about 50-60 mods in my data files listing, and I use about 30 of them permamently) especially when you get a fire weapon then venture into the caves..

Scrap having a torch. The weapon does the job for you

Re: Starting the Knights of the Nine mission - Oblivion

I found the thieves a little boring... you're not allowed to kill anyone whilst on missions... and as my normal style is hack 'n' slash through nearly everything that moves or breathes or TRIES to move and breathe it gets boring till the last few missions for the Gray Fox (where the blood price is removed.)

I kept on accidentally stealing stuff from thenm as well.... Like, whilst cleaning out every house in the game I'd hit upon a little shack with about 10-30K worth of stuff in... I'd steal it, step out of the door and be hit by the kicked out of thieves guild thingy....

Doing everything at 100% Chameleon is funny... especially on hardest... till you start fighting the higher levelled monsters with detect life, you basically can jump up and down, create as much noise/light as you want in front of some of the strongest monsters in the game and they sort of look through you
