    baby starlings nesting

have got some starlings nesting in an airvent literally 2 feet away from me and my puter, they've been there for the past 5 weeks total and they are now close to being ready to leave the nest by the looks of it

If i can be bothered to register on youtube i'll stick a video up so you can hear the racket they make, well everyone else says racket but it does not bother me in the slightest infact i quite like it

    Re: baby starlings nesting

    nice robins there ,

well 1 of the birds fledged this morning (mr/mrs evil i think) which was a relief as it was going mental tapping it's beak on the vent cover making a right old cafuffle, it was so bad i thought something was wrong with it

when i opened the little trap door to check i actually had to physically shove him/her back in as it tried to escape but it all made sense when after an hour or so mum came back to the nest and they left together it then did a few test flights off of the gutter and flew off with mum, surprised it could fly so well so quickly tbh

    here's the 2 remaining ones

    Re: baby starlings nesting

well the 2 remaining ones have both left this morning 1 of them managed to get out of the nest on it's own although it's first flight was more of a controlled fall, the second one however only wanted to get out into my room and as mum was obviously not going to come and help i ended up with the help of a cd tub getting it out myself though only succeeded initially in releasing it into my room which was rather dumb as my cat was also there , after a brief fly around i caught it and let it out the window where it successfully flew across the road

just a nest full of bird fleas and mites now

well they didn't look particularly bothered by it , and if they were i would have stopped

you'll note that all but 1 pic was taken with a dainty nikon p3 that's because they didn't like the shutter noise of my D50 so i didn't use it, oh and i will also say i've not switched on my ceiling light for 5 weeks now so as not to disturb them at night
i even googled to make sure that a camera flash would not do any damage to them

as for disturbing them they chose to nest 2 feet away from me separated by a 4mm sheet of plastic
