    New Subwoofer :)

This package arrived the other day muahah.

After 30 minutes of swearing, manhandling and unpacking we have...

A BK Monolith DF in light oak. It's my Xmas present for this year from the wife, but it was that big it was blocking the entry to the house. Can't use it yet, however I've been allowed to move it into position and wire it up ready for the weekend. One final shot comparing it to the REL it's going to replace:

    Can't wait.

Just wouldn't be of much use to me in the loft at the mo, parents weren't too please when I had sub on halfway a last night whilst watching Avatar in it's 1080p blu goodness

    Re: New Subwoofer :)

My mate (before he sold his house & HC setup with it) had a Monolith. It was immense. He had a very large room, I'd say at least 30' long, and 12' wide, and the Monolith pumped bass through it without breaking a sweat. We werewatched some scenes from Finding Nemo, in regular lossy DD, and I could feel my jeans flapping with the air the sub was pushing out.

    Enjoy!

My ex wife finally relented and let me have my old Yamaha YST-SW320 back, only trouble is it won't fit anywhere in the living room, so it's gonna have to go to ebay in the new year

Hope not - we're detatched, so I'll have to really be pushing the system to get it heard next door. The size of the box is mainly to do with the depths that it'll hit. The REL managed to hit 25hz at a push, but the real deep stuff it couldn't ever manage. Hopefully the Monolith will fill that gap.

Hehe, you'd never get it in a loft! Trust me it weighs 50kg, and is just the wrong side of 'managable' for a single person since you can't get your arms around it.

That's what I was hoping for - I want the room to pressurise properly, and there's only one way to do that, displacement.

that tiny christmas present under the tree will NOT be enough, after you've bought yourself a bass box the size of a garage.

go shopping.... NOW!!!!! and buy wrapping paper!

    Strata I or II?

    Next question, movies or music?

If it's music, the REL is going to take some beating! If films, thank goodness the rel has gone!

Strata I. It's going to be mainly films but a fair but of music too. The REL funnily enough is actually made by BK

    Re: New Subwoofer :)

Holy. Mother. Of. All. Things. Sacred.

The REL just got done. The depths this thing will plummet to, with scant regard for your internal organs is scary. With music there's an even tone (with the Antimode on obviously) even when reaching for the deepest notes in soundtracks like Tron Legacy and Dark Knight. It intergrates with the rest of the system transparently and at first it feels underwhelming, but the more it runs in and loosens up the better it gets.

    This is fun
