What I thought were sticks are green leafy shrubs, the dead ivy on my wall turns out to be wisteria, climbing roses and grape vines.

Adnittedly I always knew that our Avenue would be pretty, but I had no idea how pretty. We have a long avenue with 180 year-old trees which turn out to be mainly a combination of beech, copper beech, elm and walnut. The colour is fabulous (and the leaves keep some of the bird crap off my car).

That sounds wonderful, care to share any photographs with the rest of us?

As nice as Britain can be (living only an hour from the Peak District, even more so), I'll be spending this summer in Germany, which, although I think is generally nicer, doesn't compare for countryside and landscapes.

oh, I don't know - Rhine valley, Alps/Bavaria, Baltic sea (e.g. Lubeck) ...
