    Lost phone question...

I lost my phone on Saturday night just before getting the bus home from town (about 2.45am). Was quite drunk so not sure exactly where I lost it, but it was in between the kebab shop and the bus, so presumably either fell out my pocket or got nicked.

Phoned it that night and it was off (would have run out of battery though as had a couple of % left. Been phoning it since but it's been off. Today I tried and it's on. Let it ring to answer phone 3 times and left a message. Thing is I need to report it today to Orange (got insurance, it's a contract) but I don't want to barr it if there's a chance I can get it back (due to numbers, photos etc.)

Is there anything I can do to track the phone or something which would help me discover its whereabouts, or do you think it's a lost cause.

I've tried ringing round the kebab shop / bus company / taxi, no luck.

    Thanks,
    Ross.

Just report it as lost, you have tried everything and the person who is in posession of the phone is not answering - what more can you do?

He could set a tri point GSM monitoring system in place, calling periodically to get coordinates on the signals emanating from the ringing phone. Hire a crack assault team to converge on the immediate area of the missing phone, moving in an *Archer* sweeping formation to check the area is clear of hostiles and to incapacitate the perpertrator of the theft (or instigator of Finders Keepers). If of course the phone itself is not in the possession of a person, then a bomb deactivation squad should be sent in to check the device for booby traps.

Alternatively, calling your provider and reporting the missing phone could be less painful

Bar it. Bar it. Bar it.

My sister lost her phone, and then didn't get it barred for the same reason. She even managed to get in touch with the guy who found it, who said he would get it back to her. Two weeks later she eventually gets round to barring it since it didn't turn up. Next bill comes through the door with a £500 charge on it, lots of calls to Poland...

Bar it. Bar it. Bar it.

You can barre the number (sim card) but not the phone? Then at least maybe you will get it back if the person got the message and the phone will still be useful.

Only if the person has a conscience though!

    I agree with Adam.

Report it ASAP to orange and get a new phone.

I'm in the same boat as my P800 is now totally screwed and guess who forgot to backup his contacts list and numbers.

Think you need to get it barred asap. Even with insurance they might try to hold you liable for any calls made before you reported it lost.

Just what I was about to say. Actually, I think with some insurances you can still be held liable for any calls up to 24 hours after you've reported it as stolen. get it barred as soon as possible.

Yeah I went ahead and barred it. New phone will arrive tomorrow special delivery. Very good service! Shame about all the stuff on the phone, but definately the right thing to do.

Get the bar stuck on it regardless. If you get it back it can be unblocked by the network and you will still have everything.

With regards to insurance, if any calls are made and a huge bill is run up then the insurance will only cover you from the point it is reported stolen to the network. Anything before reporting it you will have to pay.
