The Atkins Diet
Been on this for 24 hours so far and I'm planning to stay on this stage for 4 weeks in a bid to shed some pounds before starting a "normal" diet with training. I'm 5'11 and 183lb / 13 stone. It's the second time I've tried this diet - when I was 22 I did it for two weeks and saw some good results sticking to it rigorously.
Last night I had rosemary seasoned chicken breat and broccoli. Breakfast today I had a cheddar cheese 2 egg omelette. Lunch today I had a tuna and lettuce salad. Dinner I've just had four rashers of bacon, 3 Herta frankfurters and a fried egg. Very nice and I haven't been hungry yet. Has anyone else tried this or is anyone trying it now, and what do you think of it? I'm well aware of two arguments against such diets: - all that cholesterol can't be healthy - such diets only shed weight in the short term and it all piles back on I'm thinking that a) it's only for a month so there can't be too many health implications, plus I'm giving up bread and beer, and b) once the weight comes off to the level I want I'm going to start cardio and weights in earnest so it will hopefully stay off as long as I stay away from the crisps etc. Would be interested to hear people's thoughts. |

Not when you can eat so many other things in your life and lose weight. Mixed and varied diet, with no sweets, chocolate or fizzy drinks, just lots of vegetable, half your meat intake and dont fry things. It works....trust me. My ex lost 1 and 1/2 stones in 3 months on it. I know...I did the cooking. Never looked back. |

The atkins diet is the worse thing EVER you can do for your body where nutrition is concerned regardless of any positive outcomes.
I wouldn't touch it with a barge poll my self.

Lol, there are always doomsayers in these threads and I certainly appreciate all input.
Zak33 - are you implying that the Atkins Diet killed your grandfather? Also it's never been proven what "Dr. Atkins" died of. I heard he died of a brain bleed when he fell over?? Also you're right about the quality of food that goes into your body on the Atkins diet, but it's so damn fast and rapid results is what I crave. After the initial phase of shedding poundage I will be reverting to a normal diet and training regimen. The first time I did this I never really experienced the constipation and the bad breath can be easily countered with increased oral hygiene and lots of chewing gum. You and everyone else eats "mechanically recovered meat" all the time! Why suddenly so proud?! |

Never understand why people go mad on diets ? Why dont you just eat health stuff and exercise? All this dieting for 4 weeks , i mean what you going to do when it stops , go back to junk food ? If you plan healthy meals and eat properly it will do you far more good thatn any 'quick fix' diet

Mechanically recovered meat.....hmmm.....lets see. You can mince a few off cuts of meat...and make a burger. Or you can use highpressure water jets to strip the meat from a pile of chicken carcasses and then stick it all back together and call it a Chicken Nugget. yup...I do eat both, but I dont have too, and not everyone eats that. However.... do congratulate you on keeping this thread light hearted and friendly ![]() And I thank you for it

By the way I am not a "doomsayer" for saying the Atkins diet is a load of tosh because it is. I would never recommended it to anyone.

Dorza has pretty much hit the nail on the head
![]() Take a look at Slimming World's plan, my missus lost 9 stone on it (went from 21st to 12st in 18 months). A sensible outlook is mostly the trick, along with will power ![]() Good Luck on the diet whatever happens !
