Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
Hey guys,
Im on version 7.5 (the one before messenger live)and I cant seem to sign into msn, and everytime I try, it pops up a msg window saying that I have to download the newest version in order to continue, and there is a yes or no radio button with OK button. Is anyone else experiencing this? If it does indeed mean I have to install live, EmmDollarSign has hit new lows, this is shambolic, why are they forcing users to install the latest version...seriously. Thanks |

Re: Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
There's nothing wrong with the live versions if you use a-patch on it.
The update it's asking you to do may simply be a 7.5 update? |

Re: Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
No, I let it download this update, and it asked me if I could verify the installer which was entitled "Windows Live messenger". Bah
Craig - Is that a-patch the same thing you use to remove adds and crap on the older versions of msn? Could you link me please? |

Once Live is installed press Alt and go to Help>About & find out the version. Then go to http://apatch.org/ and find the right one

I had the same thing, but it took half an hour to download on my pc because of my crap internet connection.
I was not amused.

It's for security reasons folks - the new one stops the nasty worms for spreading.

Re: Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
I think my brother had something like this, he said that it tried to download but some box came up asking i to point to some connection so it could download. He thought it was a spyware/virus thing and didn't allow it closed it and then uninstalled the whole of MSN messenger. Now when he re downloaded the installer off the MSN website and ran it it unpacked and then just randomly closes and does nothing...

Re: Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
I had this 2 days ago - was perfectly happy with 7.5, perfectly simple and functional - immediately went looking for a patch that has cut out a lot of crap that comes with it. I wish there was a 7.5 skin, as I really do not like the look of Messenger Live.

Re: Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
I just hate the fact it doesn't let you drag it to the top of the screnn... why does it leave 1/2 an inch frmo the top of the screen to the top of the window - it's just plain annoying

Re: Cant sign into MSN, forcing me to download newest version?
http://secunia.com/advisories/26570/
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS07-054.mspx Basically a worm used the video/chat function to propagate itself through to other clients and the buffer overflow could also allow any remote code to be ran which is not a very good thing really. As you can clearly see nearly all MSN versions were affected and the latest release from MS is a patched version to fix this vulnerability. I know some of you are a bit miffed to be forced to update, but imagine it from the other side of the fence... If they didn't do the forced update - Can you imagine the backlash from people infected by this worm? I can't see the issue with upgrading. I mean you all update your drivers on a regular basis and antivirus signatures, so why not IM software such as this to fix security issues like buffer overflows and whatnot?
