    Fireworks!

My parents very conviently share the same birthday, which just happens to be the 5th of nov. As such fireworks are a realy must for when i go visit, however i'm flying down so can't thake anything fun!

Anyone found any good retailers for fireworks online before? I've seen a few (epic fireworks, chinease fireworks) but they either charge £100 for delivery or have limited options.

So any good etailers greatly apprechated. Ta.

I don't suppose Tesco would do home delivery on them? Actually, thinking about it... very unlikely. Worth a look though?

sorry should clarify, my parents live in cornwall, where land is cheap and civilisation isn't there.

As such they can't even get tesco home delivery, and there are no shops near by that sell fireworks.

Plus as i'm probably going to spend £200, I'd sooner not get ripped off.

I googled "cornwall fireworks delivery" and got these. They seem pretty good and charge a small excess for delivery to the boondocks. Only way to find out is to ring them (oh how 20th century) or email them.

    Re: Fireworks!

found the sonic fireworks links before, but they seam pretty useless, the problem is with fireworks there is a hudge markup and you can just get taken for a ride.

Anyone got any experiance of one of the mail order fireworks?

edit for instance the yorkshirefireworks place is double the price of epic fireworks, making a £100 delivery charge seam reasonable.

I went to see a display by these guys in the world champioships the other day:
    www.jubileefireworks.co.uk
Display was awesome, and for what you get in the display packs they look pretty reasonable.

I particularly like the look of the big single ignition ones,

Why don't you buy them in a shop and send them off yourself to get there in time for the 5th?

    Re: Fireworks!

I always get my fireworks from Lidl- but then I live in Suburbia, so launching the Tsar Bomba from my back garden probably wouldn't go down too well.

Still, I prefer crappy fireworks. If I want to see massive explosions, and half the night sky lit up, I'll go to a display, like the awesome one on Blackheath every year. For a family occasion I'd far rather have a bowl of chilli, a big pan of mulled wine, and a three-flashes-before-it-fizzles-out-Roman-Candle, along with a Catherine-Wheel-that-falls-off-the-fence-and-races-around-the-garden-because-we-didn't-nail-it-on-properly-in-the-dark.

Sometimes the simple pleasures are the best.

Lidl's Rockets are pretty sweet IMO. They make a hell of a WHOOSH! when they take off, and explode properly too. IMO they look as good as a display mortar, since you're seeing them a bit closer up.

Edit: as a random aside, what was your best ever firework display? For me it was the one I saw in Ilfracombe on the evening of their Summer parade: lying on a rocky outcrop by the shore, full of scrumpy, watching the explosions, and the whole of the seafront lit up by them made for an unforgettable evening for a 16 year old.

    Re: Fireworks!

I think the best ever one I saw was when my Dad got his current jon some 20 years ago and his company put on a massive display in the company car park, catherine wheels, roman candles, even what was called a pigeon, basically a catherine wheel that was on a bit of rope and move around. The rockets they sent up were excellent

I don't recall how old I was at the time, but afterwards they gave us all a pasty each too Heaven

The first ever one I was was when I was a kid and had broken my wrist so my Dad spent hislast fiver on the smallest box of fireworks he could find, rockets, green lions, man I can still remember what they were called !!

Not recommended for the faint of heart, but in Abu Dhabi we used to make our own.

The best show I ever saw (I'm going to sound such a snob) was at a summer ball in the Prince Albert Sporting Club in Monaco. There is a huge ballroom and after the dinner and show the band came on and the whole roof of the ballroom slid away out of sight, leaving only the stars, then the walls slid into the floor so we were in the open air, and then there was a brilliant firework display from a boat parked just outside the club so that the fireworks burst above our heads. Magic.

Many people don't know that a child, with branches of coral nailed to his head and painted brown, resembles a deer.
