call me racist, but if the vast majority of gun crime is commited by a particular race, then that race should be targetted the majority of the time over other races.

They're not going to be targetting school kids carrying books, they're not going to be targetting professionals in suits, they're not going to be targetting mothers, old men, or old women. They're going to be targetting a particular type of black male, who fits a profile. And even then only when they have a suspicion that person might have committed an offence or have reason to carry a weapon.

It happened in Northern Ireland, but the people targetted were white males, who fit a particular profile. Because white males were the ones 'causing 99% of the problem. When are we going to stop being afraid to target a particular group just because we might be called racist?

Very difficult to do anything these days with the leftie, liberal, PC, brigade in powerful hidden background positions....strange they couldn't stop the attack on Iraq (not that I agreeed with it) but the answer is simple if these wishy washy guys came out into the open, not many people would vote for them and they wouldn't get to be PM.

the problem is, even if the majority of gun crime is committed by a particular race, less than 1% of that race commit gun crime. if you discriminate to far you risk alienating them completely and gun crime would increase.

to be honest, i think eradicating guns now would be impossible, the best way to reduce gun crime would be to legalise guns...

I agree that the Police should be concentrating on young black males, as there is demonstrably a hugely disproportionate level of gun crime amongst such individuals.

There was a segment on the (BBC?) news this week showing pictures of the people under 16 who had died from shot wounds this year - about 60% of them (IIRC) were black males - clearly a far greater proportion than exists in the country as a whole.

Yes, the level of gun crime (and murder) in the US is FAR higher than in the UK, although the level in Switzerland (which also has liberal gun controls) is not.

erm is it because it is difficult to get into Switzerland to live so they can pick and choose what groups they like.

But do you think that one percent includes many professionals? Or mothers? Or people over 40? Police can automatically rule out vast numbers of people just because of their appearance. Dress like a 'gangsta', get stopped and searched. At the very least people might stop wearing their jeans down round their arses. And baseball caps at odd angles. And lose the attitude.

And they have national service IIRC, and then they give everyone a gun, which is why the gun laws are so liberal. I'm thinking they teach people in the army to respect firearms.

Americans can't seem to get their cheese burger infested, tiny, tiny, oh so tiny minds around the following fact: average Joe does not need to own a gun. If you give average Joe a gun, average Joe will go mad and kill a lot of people.

The solution is to not let average Joe own a gun.

It seems no matter how many killing sprees average Joe goes own, they just don't get it.

erm you are missing the point...........it is "who" owns the guns.

Some US towns have instructed joe public to have a gun because it deters crime.......burglary and muggings are lower in the US because criminals don't want to take the chance of the victim being armed.
It is a brave person who trespasses in Texas...one Japanese tourist knocked on a door because his car had broken down and was shot dead and the home owner was found not guilty of anything in court.

OJ Simpson was found not guity of anything in court. As was Wacko Jacko. With American courts, it goes without saying that the sane verdict will be the opposite of the one reached.
