    Nicked for doing 406mph

DRIVER Peter O’Flynn was stunned to receive a speeding notice claiming a roadside camera had zapped him — at an astonishing 406MPH.

The sales manager, who was driving a Peugeot 406 at the time, said: “I rarely speed and it’s safe to say I’ll contest this.”

Officials last night admitted it was a clerical bungle, but insisted he would still be prosecuted.

Peter was driving the courtesy car while his own was being repaired. A garage worker phoned to tell him he had been nicked for speeding.

Peter added: “He said, ‘Are you sat down, you’ve been caught at quite a speed — 406mph’. I thought it was a wind-up.”

The Peugeot 406 Sport has a top speed of 129mph. But when he saw the letter it confirmed that he had been exceeding the 60mph limit in Runcorn, Cheshire at 406mph.

LOL, that's crazy that they're still gonna prosecute though.

I read somewhere today that more drivers are being locked up than burgulars! F***ing stupid if you ask me!

When oh when will this country ever get it right.....

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

Surely this suggests that the hand cameras are not always accurate. Yet the police and the courts seem to think they generally are. This is quite worrying, because what if the camera said you were doing a possible speed like 80 mph, when you were actually doing 30 mph ... you would lose your licence unfairly.

Thats what the lines in the road are for then surely to measure speed = distance/time simple physics.

Cameras can only capture up to about 150mph I think anyway.

You can request the pictures though, and check it yourself. I think I remember some guy doing something like that, getting caught at aou 95 in a 50 zone and checking the photos, and he'd actually been doing about 45ish, something like that.

It does worry you though, if you don't keep a close eye on your speed, and just drive to what feels safe, then get a letter saying you were doing 85 on the motorway, how are you going to know if you were or not if these things seem to be inaccurate half the time? (Maybe a slight exaggeration, but the point still stands).

I am a little suprised that no one appears to have pointed out as yet,
that the stated vehicle speed as been entered as the Peougeot Model No. 406.
    Regards.

    Your Nicked

    When you think about it,
Peter O'flynn was lucky he could have been done for speeding at 640 Mph.

I saw that headline about drivers v. burglars and thought it was stupid (didn't buy the paper so I don't know any more than that). Then I thought about it a bit. The fact is that you don't get locked up for a driving offence unless you do something seriously bad, like 130+ speeding, driving without insurance, hit and runs etc. What's scary is the fact that there must be a lot of seriously dangerous people driving about.
