Forum Rules & Freedom of Expression

What is your view on the risk of being suspended from a forum for expressing your views? (relevant link removed by moderator).

Is there a need for clearer Hexus forum rules if despite not contravening any of the existing rules it is possible to be suspended or, worse, banned?

I unequivocally support rules that prevent threats, foul language etc. Freedom of speech within these confines seems reasonable otherwise the integrity of the forum itself is in jeopardy.

Expressing your views is encouraged on hexus, but personal attacks aren't, especially when telling a Moderator who has been here for a number of years what to do.

I'm confused by the inference here? You have removed a relevant link and changed the title of this thread to allow adult discussion?

p.s. have just noticed the addition you have made to your post.

what are you going on about. I will not allow personnel vindication or finger pointing in any thread. Your main discussion topic is still relevant without the people involved being mentioned.

the rules are pretty clear, people don't get banned very easy, I mean look, gtech is still knocking around.

The moderation is friendly and polite, I see no issues at all.

    It is Inevitable.....

There is no personal vindication intended. I included the link to the other thread merely as an example of the principle.

Every morning i have to catch the victoria line from euston, going southbound.

Every morning i'm amazed by the people who squish onto the train, some people are incredibly un-aware of their surroundings.

Some are so pre-ocupied with something else they fail to hear the tell tail beeping sound, the precusor of the closing doors. As such they trap something, getting it covered in 40 year old tube crud, and making them even later.

There desire to climb onto the tube in a hurry, leads to them been in a worse posistion to if they'd thought about it, and waited a little.

I must say I would like to be contacted by PM by a moderator the next time a thread that I start is mysteriously deleted or locked (e.g. my 'Is shooting cats legal' one).

    PS -love Hexus BTW

Re: Forum Rules & Freedom of Expression

I've been kicking about for 4 years on Hexus and I can't remember someone being banned for expressing their view. I'm sure there must have been instances whereby terms and conditions were violated and these dealt with but I don't see contentious issues arising from any bans or suspensions that may have happened in the past.

The Hexus community is quite mature with regard to alot of debates that often degenerate into flame wars on other forums. On the whole the forum members seem to police themselves. Not sure if that's wholly true, but then again I haven't a clue what goes on behind the scenes.

Overall I think Hexus is moderated with a light touch and you can express whatever view you wish as long as you remain within the terms and conditions you sign up for when joining.

We do get heated discussions from time to time but that's all part and parcel of a forum.

I see. So when someone in a position of 'authority' tells you to shut up, you do so immediately and without question? Well done citizen.

The question isn't anything about free speech, a company run board for profit is NOT a forum for free speech.

As hexus is a company there are many legal issues that aren't listed specifically that could get your posts removed.

Talking badly to a mod would get you banned, where is the issue?, hexus is pretty much self policing and i'm guessing the only reason this post has been created is you must have suffered

As tiggs put it, the other thread, the person was given warnings, quite a few. Then got banned, if he had taken a step backed, look at the request been made, the clear warnings of what would of happened if he continued to wade blindly onto the train....

The warnings where simple, easy to follow, and everyone following the thread would of been aware of discussions going on behind the scenes.

As it stands i personally think thats fair.

Hexus are actually very good at letting people question the status quo, they've no need too. They've even responded quite well when i've critised their editorials/reviews etc. Hell of a lot more patitence than i've ever demonstrated here, also more than you're mate in question.
