Just had a minor altercation outside my house over parking...
Ok, just wanted to get your opinion on this.
So, my mother has been round to visit me, and she drives a big stupid 4x4 and she decided to double park badly and block somebody from getting into their drive. Now this is of course wrong, the lady 2 doors down decided that in order to make her point she would not park a few meters up the road she would instead block my mothers big stupid 4x4 in. Now when she went out to go home (had only been here 15 or 20 mins) she finds that its blocked in with no way to come out. I hear some shouting so step outside to see my neighbor ranting about how infuriated she is, now ok fair enough but 2 wrongs don't make a right and she is being childish in my view. So My mother apologises and asks her politely to remove the car. She refuses and says she is busy and that because she has been inconvenienced she has decided to inconvenience my mum. So I step in and tell her she is being pathetic and if she doesn't move it I will ring the police and have them ticket her for refusing to remove it. She tells me to go ahead and do it and heads back inside. So, one phone call later and the police are on their way. She has obviously seen me read them her plate and after a couple more minutes comes out and shifts the car. Now, in my view she was being very childish, and while I understand why she was irritated I just do not find that a very rational way to behave. Fair enough step outside and vent about it but to go and do something like that is just crazy imho. The stupid thing is we are not talking about her having to hike up a mountain from the possible places she could have parked the car, we are talking 20 meters to her door. I used to live in a terraced street full of flats and sometimes I would have to park almost the next street over and would have to walk a good couple of hundred meters to my door. i never felt the need to shout at anybody no matter how foul a mood I was in. What is it about middle aged women that makes some of them such gimps?

Well, this woman is being a bit of a fool, but then again no reason why your old lady can't take a nano second of her life to see if she's pissing anyone else off.
If we all make a bit of an effort, its better for everyone. Right kids? Our street, for example, is chock-o-cock-o-block with cars, vans and all sorts, but everyone sticks to their own spot, makes sure they are not blocking anyone else, and as such, we all manage to go about our lives like adults, without getting into altercations, minor or otherwise. Just try to be aware that other people exist. |

Parking across dropped kerbs is an offence if it blocks someone from leaving their property. Round where my folks live its got so bad that people just call the police straight away.

One other thing I should have mentioned (and this is hard to describe as this whole estate is like a kid friendly zone with no real roads and a one car per household rule) is that the other car that my mum had double parked next to was in fact the ranting womans (or her husbands, whatever). This estate has a 1 car per household rule and the reason there is a parking problem is because others don't stick to it. Now, I couldn't give a monkeys about the rule and if I would have 2 cars if I could afford 2 cars but then I would never complain about the parking situation ( I don't anyway, there are more important things to worry about in life - Jade goodies latest boob job for example.) like she just did. Seem like the hight of hypocrisy if you ask me. oh, and I called the police after she moved it and told them they were no longer required. Which come to think about it, is exactly what this woman should have done (call old bill) rather than playing silly buggers.

Well, it wasn't in front of a dropped kerb but it was badly double parked. Call the police or just park somewhere else would seem like the rational course of action to me. Not block them with your car and argue about it for 10 minutes.

There really is no need for rudeness... if your anything like me, someone being rude and aggressive won't get them anywhere...until i'm spoken too calmly and politely I won't respond end of, there's a way to deal with People and there's a way to speak to People and being rude isn't it.My Car broke down across my Neighbours driveway last week I knew the Neighbours were at work but left a note through their letterbox just apologising and an explanation... luckily the Car was shifted by the time they got home, still felt guilty but I suppose stuff like that can't be helped

Re: Just had a minor altercation outside my house over parking...
Well, I don't react well to rudeness, and after telling her to calm down and I pretty much told her she was being a moron (might have used some colourful expletives as well..). If she had been calm and rational to begin with there would have been no need for an altercation. Giving her both barrels might make me no better than her in that sense but I don't take well to somebody shouting at a nearly 60 year old woman no matter what kind of crap driver she is.

Aye, problem is shouting and swearing can lead to other things, or at least it can round our way.
Bit of shouting, bit of swearing, her old man comes out, you square up, a punch is thrown, then another, a scuffle breaks out, someone gets the better, the victor puts the boot in, a passing fox panics, runs out into the road, an oncoming car swerves to avoid it, piles into the scuffle, and before you know it someone has lost an eye. Never lose an eye over a parking dispute. Thats always good advice. |

This seems to have kicked off through thoughtlessness. The moral is, think. Especially when others are affected and for the reasons Stewart mentions above.

Re: Just had a minor altercation outside my house over parking...
interesting...
...and on another forum, the woman (or more likely her son) is posting about how their car was blocked which lead to them missing a major deadline and ranting about how that woman just said a token sorry and wants her car back now as though like its her right even though she doublepark, and then her son came over and shows some colorful language, etc etc... normal programming resumes... |
