The Boxing Day Sale Adverts to ruin your Christmas Eve!

Oh I hope no one here has purchased any of the things that are already being advertised for the Boxing Day sales
How to totally ruin the magic of gifts, and how to prove that you were overcharged in the first place.

I wish, and hope.....that the large retailers al learn a lesson soon and stop pre empting the need for clearances.
Stocks gotta go, but there must be some compassion, surely?

Tom Tom Sat Navs are on the tv tonight, Christmas Eve, reduced by a fair sum of money...and some people WILL have purchased some this week for gifts.
OH well...... hope you guys weren't affected.

Yup, I hate the whole xmas 'culture'.

I always try to buy people gifts that don't fluctuate much during the xmas sales. DVDs/games and most electrical things are always a big no no.

I don't think I bought anthing that would be effected by christmas sales. Even if they were, i wouldn't be too bothered, they aren't for me. I bought them because that's what I wanted to give the particular person, and the price was right, if it hadn't been, i would have got something else.

On the other hand, when i buy something for myself and see it significantly cheaper soon after I do get annoyed.

Further to what Funkstar has said - it's too late and not worth getting worked up about. So long as the recipients are happy, so am I. Far better looking ahead - you're less likely to trip up

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Yup... I bought the missus a TomTom One XL for £150, a quick check of currys (currys!) shows it at £135 now. Still she'll use it and like it hopefully (she's starting a new job in the new year in a new area so short of buying a shotgun for the boot this ought to help out the most)

Most shops do a 14 day price difference matching service (well comet do...if you find it cheaper in 14 days you can get the difference if you still have your receipt)

Gap used to do the same, 16 days i think. Although it isn't widely known and they don't advertise it well.

What gets my goat is, and I work in retail, but like I say what really gets my goat is the fact that stores feel the need to open on boxing day. I work in retail and I hate working boximg day. It's called screw the working man so that masses can come in and buy yet more bargains that they would normally have quite happily have managed without until they saw that there is now a whopping great big saving.

Yeah ok so you might be saving money from what it's normal price would have been, but the true art to saving money would be not to buy it in the first place, especially if you've managed for so long without the product, do people actually ask themselves when they go out to buy these things and make us poor sales people feel misserable and like second raters when we haven't got what the misserable customers want in stock or have sold out.

At the end of the day if people really do want these products then great, they will still be there after the Christmas season. All retail stores should be closed in my mind till at least the 2nd of January to give the people (like myself) a decent Christmas break fresh and ready to do battle with people who are eager to spend money and get themselves into more debt.

Sorry guys, I'll get off my soap box now.

I know where you're coming from Behemoth, I used to work in Currys many moons ago. Opening on Boxing Day was pretty much a waste of time as most of the day was spent waiting around, bored to tears, for the occassional browser to appear. I'm sure the cost to keep the store open outweighed the day's takings.

What really used to get me though, were the people who were waiting outside the store well before it even opened to return something. There's far more to life than shopping surely!

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

When I worked at Game, Boxing Day was one of our busiest days, mainly due to West Quay not being open, which a lot people thought would be and so decided to go to our store instead. I think in 3 days (Boxing Day, the day after and the Saturday after that) we took more money than the entire month.

Personally, I liked working Boxing Day, as I got triple pay. As a student back then, the money really did come in handy. Although, I only got paid time and a half for New Years Day, and that really was dead!

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt; then it's bloody hilarious!
