If Easter is a Religious event, why is it timed by the moon?
OK...... a dude was born in a barn on 25 December. 0000
(We moved the calendars around to match a Gregorian styleee..... but it is on the same day, every year) Then the poor sod mouths off about the bloke who runs the country, and about his dad being better, bigger and harder...and gets strung up. No matter...although he pops his clogs, he pops back up again, having moved a large stone. But the day changes every year...and sometimes its not even in the same month! This year, 2008, Easter Sunday is March 23rd Next year it's April 12th 2009 So why on earth (or inthis case....why in lunar) is Easter timed like a druid would do it? |

Probably because no one was quite sure when it was - and this way's as good as any other?

Re: If Easter is a Religious event, why is it timed by the moon?
most christan festivals are not timed according to the original event, but according to older ceremonies already taking place. "In part, the Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations"
same deal with easter |

Because like Christmas it's another hijacked Pagan festival.
The Pagan origins of the Easter Bunny All about fertility and the start of spring, hence the bunny and eggs. 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!!

Re: If Easter is a Religious event, why is it timed by the moon?
Jesus wasn't born in December, and frankly not on the 25th. It seemed a good idea at the time for the church to put it, so that it could be in line an attract more pagan people to the church. If you read the account, shepherds wouldn't be outside tending their sheep in the winter time. There are other things which point to roughly when it was but we are not sure.
Also Easter is a three day period. Jesus died on 'Good Friday' and rose again on the First day of the week (Sabbath - Sunday) so Easter would have to fall on a weekend, rather than a specific day as Christmas is.
