Petition to: urge the Department for Communities and Local Government to clarify it's position on 'community cohesion' in relation to organisations providing non-generic, essential services to vulnerable people, such as those provided by Southall Bla

This organisation is ESSENTIAL and absolutely 100% respected internationally. You'd think in the current panic about forced marriage they'd be funding them, not closing them down.

but seriously, i'd sign it, where it not for the fact the pettition blerb gave me the impression that this is in fact a racisit organisation, that will only help people from certain backgrounds who are been victimised.

Is that correct, or have i just got a back take?

It's a well known fact that things are only racist if they victimise the non whites.

Right. Racist against whites. That would be why my wife, who is WHITE, supports them. The organization exists because women from minority ethnic communities may have differing or more extensive requirements than those from the broader community, and consequently it might be a good idea to have an organization there that has a clue what those might be, as well as having a greater focus on areas of specific concern in such communities, such as forced marriage. That's common sense, not racism. Whatever; don't like the petition, don't sign. Don't like the organization, don't sign.

I don't mind the organisation, infact I think it's good that something like that it is around. But you're damn sure that if there was a similar organisation that openly said it was for white people it wouldn't be around too long even though, as you said, they have 'different' requirements.

I'm a middle class whitey and happy to sign it. Organisations that cater for the wider (that's to say non minority) majority don't really need to specify a colour or race, do they?

This organisation obviously fulfills a dedicated and somewhat specialist niche role in the wider scheme of things which is why I'm happy to sign (having known a few women who've suffered domestic violence.)

Surely it's more a case that it tackles a problem that generally only exsists inside a specific ethinic subset? If so, then yes it needs our support as well because we want to integrate better with said ethnic group because we want everyone to have freedom and decent treatment inside the UK.

Its money counters looking at figures though guys, If organisation X helps 10 people and organisation Y helps 100 and they are both banded into the same "category". This amount of cost needs to be cut, the money men will clearly just say stick X into Y and reduce overheads.

You really think they make decisions on what actual work they do?.

Its nothing to do with ethnic diversity, better class of service for the minority who will understand the problems better or anything else. ITS COLD HARD CASH.

Tell you what - let's have a Hexus.Kneejerk section where people can go any time they want to cack on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about TEH EVIL POLITICKAL CORECTNESS. That way those of us that are tired of reading sub Littlejohn-esque replies to virtually every single thread in General Discussion (regardless of how relevant) can just ignore that section to avoid having to plough through ill informed ranting, and those that like to wallow in their own blinkered self-pity can do so in the company of others.

Domestic violence comes from all communities, we where told that you shouldn't racial profile such abuse because the trends are hard to observe. (but this was from a child protection point of view). So why not help all?

I'm not against having specalist advisors for specific areas of abuse, but i dislike the idea of help been based on ethnitisity. Surely that doesn't seam right?

Southall Black Sisters, a pioneering and pre-eminent organisation for women victims of domestic violence from black and ethnic minority communities, is facing possible closure if Ealing Council goes ahead with a plan to cut its core funding from 1st April 2008. Ealing Council's decision is based on the view that Southall Black Sisters is a 'single group' organisation and therefore promotes segregation within the community.

There is no way on the planet i would sign this.

What if we had a charity that would protect 'white women only'?
People would be up in arms and everyone would cry racist!

If they are in their 'black & ethnic communities' then let them deal with it. Public money shouldnt be wasted on this rubbish and i am glad Ealing Council is pulling the funding.

As a black person, I have to agree with blitzen. This is due to the fact that integration is whats needed. Everything should be open to women/men of every colour. Domestic violence is no different whether your black, Caucasian, latin or Asian.

I'm of black parents who were born here and i was too, All i know is britain. I have many friends of different races and we all see each other as equals.

I do think ethnic minorities do play the suffering card to often and this is our downfall. I do agree that different backgrounds need different things like "places of worship", But domestic violence is suffered by women of all colour and that the organisation should be forced to open up to white women.

when does the separation stop? I think the younger generations are alot better at being together then the old ones.
