The thanks button resides by the quote button. If you find someone helpful (such as right now ) etc.. you.. thank them

    # Gratitude, appreciation, or thankfulness, is an emotion, which involves a feeling of emotional indebtedness towards another person; often accompanied by a desire to thank them, or to reciprocate for a favour they have done for you. ...

Basically, someone can thank you if they either

REALLY like your post (a lot of the rather funny ones get a few thanks)

    or

Find your post really quite helpful (in a solution to their problem, or emphasizing their point better than them)

There's also the rare occasion when someone clicks 'thanks' on accident, meaning to click 'quote' instead (yes, it does happen!)

lol, me too, about 3 or 4 times.

I thought you were going to bed? (you said goodnight in my thread, was that a 'night' to me, or a 'night' from you? Either way, I highly doubt it'll be 'good')

I'm a bit addicted, decided to watch a film before bed, and ended up back here on hexus... plus my body clock is a bit screwed after staying up late (4-7am sleep time) for the last week doing assignments

Thanks? Just think of it as a "reach around" (from Full Metal Jacket) and you'll do fine.

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?
