guitar string help

Hey, this is a question to anyone who plays guitar. im wanting to re string my guitar (its been about 2 months so its about time!!) i was thinking of getting Gibson brite wires light (10 -46) OR ernie ball (10-46) super slinkys... At the moment im playing a daddario 09- 42 tin...but i fancy a change. what do you reckon??? thanks! - Jonlad

Super Slinky or Hybrid Slinky are my string of choice on any steel strung guitar. Superslinkys on the metawl axe, Hybrids on the jazz metawl axe.

I've got ernie ball superslinkys on my guitar, very good strings and they take a bit a snapping (the main reason i switched to em)

Been playing a squire signature strat for the last 7 or so months shall be moving on to a bc rich beast though in a few weeks.

actually erney ball strings were referred to as the worst make of string there is. I use fender strings and this other dodgy foreign make which are the best so far. If you really know how to string your guitar and buy the best ones your strings will last for up to a year. If you think this is lies turn around and go and read right now. After a year they won't snap if you do them right and by this you can be doing 1 and a half step bends everyday and they won't snap. Mine have lasted 9 months so far

D'Addario are where its at.... never snapped a string using them (including over 100gigs+).

I had my guitar properly done with fender strings and i'd snapped 2 strings within 3 weeks...........

all my mates use Super-Slinkys on theirs. this has reminded me to get my bass re-strung....Fender Jazz strings metinks...

I guess it's down to personal taste, kezzer. Strings are like cheese - you like one sort, your don't like another. Ernie Balls being the lubberly vaccuum packed kraft cheese slices, of course

I change my hybrids twice a year, and my slinkys 4 times a year. The longevity of strings can often be increased by allowing the strings to "sink in" to a tuning when you initially re-string your guitar. IE, string your guitar, tune it, then leave it over night. This (supposedly) allows the strings to stretch out a little, and settle down at your tuning. I've been doing this for a few years now, and compared to how long strings lasted/stayed in tune before I did this, my strings have become more efficient. 'Tis very tempting to have a good play when you've got your shiny new strings on, but give it a go.

Also, lube your nut whenever you re-string. A thin layer of pencil lead in the nut groove decreases friction and wear during string bending and re-tuning. Shine your neck and frets, too! Not only does it look nice, but it also helps longevity by decreasing friction, especially in string bending.

It also depends on the bridge as this is where it rubs when you move the string

Tremolos reduce string longevity, too - both in tuning stability (unless it's a locking bridge, of course) and again, by friction/stretching the string out/relaxing the string, etc. I locked my fender bridge a long time ago, so I don't get that problem.

Oh... action... that's something else that affects string longevity too... but I need a poo, so I won't go into it
