Simple question for cat owners
I've got to take my flatmates kitten to the vet tommorow morning.
But i've never used a kitty carrier before (yes, i've seen *that* picture). Basically what do you use too line it? Newspaper? Newspaper + litter, Nothing?

Re: Simple question for cat owners
i always go for newspaper at bottom and something fairly soft/thick, towel or sheet or something, on top. could use something the kitten's used to that smells familiar, help the trip be less stressful.
as it's a kitten maybe something waterproof round outside of carrier depends what sort it is. top tip for the future; get the kitten used to the carrier in between trips, leave it out, put treat/food in, etc, so it doesn't only associate it with the vet. i didn't have my cat from a kitten & she doesn't like handling that much anyway, getting her in the carrier is the worst bit of trips to the vet.

Re: Simple question for cat owners
ah, thanks for the advice, if i had the carrier already, i'd do that tonight... a bit of forward planning might of been worthwhile.
i'll try and get her used to it more in the future, i'm sure the only reason i've got to take her to the vet is because my flatmate still wants her to love her. So whilsts shes really friendly to me, i wounder if she still will be after tommorow!

Re: Simple question for cat owners
I put a towel in the bottom, definately don't put kitty litter otherwise the cat will think that it's their litter tray. On the plus side, most cats don't mind the vet's, it's usually just the car journey that upsets them. Still you might get lucky and find a cat that *likes* cars, had one once that used to want to sit on your lap and rest it's face on the dashboard.

Re: Simple question for cat owners
In which case, consider a kitty lead instead. Heck most cats I know will happily follow you down the road if you wave a treat in front of them.

TBH a harness isn't good for a kitten as they'll slip the lead, safer in a box.

Re: Simple question for cat owners
hmm lead might be of use in the future, but for now, she's un vaxinated etc.
So no chances, heck she is too small for her collar

Re: Simple question for cat owners
deffo needs a box then, with a towel in the bottom and something that smells of mummy - if she has a catbed the bedding in that will be fine.

Re: Simple question for cat owners
we do have posh sofas, and posh chairs for table.
She seams to like the nice fine leather instead of the scratch post, also she seams to really like watching my fish tank.....

Re: Simple question for cat owners
If the vet is only five minutes walk away the save yerself all the trouble.
Build an air cannon, call the vet, tell him to open a window and ...FOOM! One cat at the vets. Plus, it's the best place to be if the landing doesn't go well. |
