Rope to the moon...
NASA and various other space agencies spend millions, or even billions every shuttle launch into space, so I was wondering, as ridiculous an idea as it seems...
What would the actual physical issues be with running a rope to the moon? 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!!

Re: Rope to the moon...
Rope to the moon wouldn't work as it orbits the Earth at a different rates to the Earth turning. As such, any Space Elevator needs to be in geosychronous orbit.
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt; then it's bloody hilarious!

Re: Rope to the moon...
Space elevator anyone?
Anyway, would you tie the rope around the moon, or through it like a conker with a knot at the end. Then Mars could borrow one of Neptune's moon and we could play conkers.
