Fuel duty petition
Hi all,
Now I am aware that the goverment has overspent a bit lately and somewhat rely on fuel duty as a main source of income, but with Oil prices going out of control thanks to certain hedge funds for a start (*cough*Goldman Sachs & others*cough*), I think its worth considering this e-petition : Petition to: Reduce Fuel duty to bring fuel prices back to an acceptable level. |

Re: Fuel duty petition
Here's the thing, fuel duty brings in a heck of a lot of money and it's not like our government has a surplus of money right now.
So if they take this away, where do you want the shortfall to be taken from? the NHS? the already underfunded MoD? the court system? |

Re: Fuel duty petition
On the other hand, the rate things are going, some people arent going to be able to afford to get to work, which would certainly slash any tax revenue from that point, too.

Re: Fuel duty petition
Signed... for what little good it will do.
We'll all just get an e-mail in a few months telling us how they're not going to do anything about it and trying to justify such a ridiculous level of tax for "Green" reasons that they're not even tackling with the money. I see with the last one they tried to claim the EU were making them set tax at a minimum level... despite the fact that this only accounts for about 40p and in the last one they're talking of fuel being 85p/litre and still 50p of that is tax & duty, or 25% higher than the EU minimum tax. 1.21 GIGAWATTS!!!!!
