    random sky remote question

    Hello,
i thought someone might know the answer to this.
when i turn my tv on it has the normal 4 channels.
when i used to press the sky button on the remote it used to lanch sky and then i could view any channel and open the guide etc.
but for a while now if i press the sky button nothing happerns. i have to get my normal tv remote and press channel 6 to get to sky.
i can switch from sky back to standard tv channels by pressing tv and then say 3 but cant go back to sky by pressing the sky button.

this happerned a few months ago when i changed the batterys. for a while it wouldnt even control my sky box. so i got a new remote and all commands work except for the sky button changing to sky.
i found this website but wasnt quite sure if it would help

    hmmmm.

Could you be connected via SCART?

check our output settings, are they on RGB?

When you press TV on the sky remote, it sets the scart mode to older style, when you press sky, it goes to the newer RGB.

    Re: random sky remote question

    To set the TV code:

Try the 4digit code provided in the post above first, before trying 3 digit codes

To program the remote control unit using a 3 digit code:

    1: Turn your TV on.

2: Press TV on your Sky remote control handset.

3: Hold down SELECT and the RED button together for about 2 seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control flashes twice.

4: Key in your 3 digit code selected for your make of TV from the table below. The light on the Sky remote control should flash twice. If the light flashes only once, recheck the code for your make of TV and start again at Step 1.

5: Press the STANDBY button on your Sky remote control. If your TV switches off, press SELECT. The light on the Sky remote control flashes twice. Now try the other functions.

6: Repeat if necessary using another code.

To program the remote control unit using a 4 digit code:

    1: Turn your TV on.

2: Press TV on your Sky remote control handset.

3: Hold down SELECT and the RED button together for about 2 seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control flashes twice.

4: Press TV on the remote again.

5: Type in the 4 digit code for your TV. The LED on the remote should flash twice. If the LED only flashes once, recheck the code for your brand of TV and start again at Step 1.

6: Press STANDBY, and your TV should turn off. If it doesn't switch off, press TV, then press the STANDBY button. Repeat this (press TV, then STANDBY) until your TV turns off, then press SELECT.

NOTE: If the LED on the Sky remote control flashes 3 times then all internal codes for that make of receiver have been checked. Repeat from step 1, ensuring that you enter the correct manufacturer code.

7: You should see the TV Guide screen. When you do, the remote control set-up process is complete. If you do not see the TV Guide screen, you must now complete the following steps.

8: Press TV on the remote control.

9: Hold down SELECT and the GREEN button together for about two seconds, until the red light on the Sky remote control flashes twice.

10: Key in the number of the channel on your TV that you use for watching satellite TV.

11: Press SELECT on your remote control. The red light flashes twice. The remote control setup process is complete.

    Additional Info

To RESET the remote back to factory settings:

Press TV, then Select and the Red button together for 2 seconds (red light flashes twice). Select 999 (red light flashes 1 long and then 2 short).

This deletes it's memory and defaults to code 038

    VARIATIONS:

There are various different versions of the Sky remote. Just to add more confusion, the preset codes stored in the remotes memory differ from unit to unit. An older remote may not have the code for a new TV.

Under the battery cover you will find a white sticker. If is marked as "Sky Rev.6" then you have the latest-ish version of the remote. The latest that is used with Sky HD is Rev 8

b4 u mess with the remote you should check the scarts not come loose, if the sky remote controls the volume then its time to go fishing round the back of the tv and sky box.

the sky box sends a signal to the tv to auto switch to scart, and a lot of tv's will also come out of standby when the signal is sent.

sky usually fit the scart so you get a decent picture quality

    Re: random sky remote question

You say you're connected though Scart, but having to put the TV to channel 6 suggests you can only view it through the aerial cable.

Are you sure the scart lead is working properly and is connected properly? Sorry for asking what seems like a silly question, but because scart is a 21 pin connector, if all the relevant pins aren't connected, you may only get partial functionality. There's many thousands of people who have called up help desks to say they have picture but no sound, or no sound through one speaker, who get told to push the scart lead in firmly... then bingo! (*edit*: I see Gonzo has mentioned this too, while I took far too long to write this )

The easiest way to check would be to switch the sky box off and on again by using the button on the box itself. If the TV doesn't auto-switch to the correct input then there's a fault somewhere in the scart chain. If it does switch to the correct input though, then your fault is most likely with the remote.

Many of the remote codes will only give partial control over a TV, and though they control the volume or whatever, they may not actually be the correct code. Only thing to do is go through all the remote codes, trying all the TV functions as you go, until you get to the right one. Trial and error I'm afraid!

    Good luck!

    Re: random sky remote question

When you press [Sky] a signal is sent through the Scart cable to say "Hey switch over to me!" (albeit in a much more boring electronic manner).

As bigblue has said, if you're watching it on Channel 6 then it's not using the Scart cable but the Ariel cable instead. It would be on an AV or Line channel if it was coming through the Scart.

Sounds to me like there's nothing wrong with your remote (you wouldn't be able to control Sky at all if there was). The fault is in your Scart connection. Either the "Channel switch" connection is dead or the whole cable isn't working. Try making sure it's plugged in ok, and if it still doesn't work, try a different cable.
