Re: next door is haveing a party...
![]() actually this worked for us in our 2nd year student house. made some new friends too, we'd only moved in 2 days previous and ended up gatecrashing their house warming. To this day i still keep an emergency bottle of party grade voddy for such occasions.

Go join in... (!)
Or tell them you have a baby which won't sleep and could they start to quieten it down. Shouting out the window will just get ignored... |

Re: next door is haveing a party...
You can't dial 999, but you can call the police. Just get the number for the local cop shop (phone book or net) and ring them on that number. They'll put a stop to it, though I don't imagine they'll see it as a priority. They will come at some point though, and that may stop it happening again.
One of our neighbours complained about other neighbours who owned dirt bikes. They were revving and tuning them at all hours. They were also (very rarely) giving them test runs up and down the street. Police popped round to see what the situation was, and as the bikes weren't licensed for road use they called for a low-loader and carted all the bikes away! I thought it was a bit harsh myself, but all has been quiet in the street since! |

Re: next door is haveing a party...
The authorities will only attend to such instances if they're persistent or continue to an unreasonable time at night. Other than that, it's just something that people occasionally have to put up with if they live in proximity to other people.

Re: next door is haveing a party...
Fair shout really, they'll all have raging hangovers
![]() EDIT: To the below question, midnight isn't especially unreasonable for a Saturday night. If it's not something they do every weekend, of course. I think when it gets to about 2am, if it's still really rowdy then that'd be unreasonable. Unfortunately, some people won't bother to drop you a note to let you know that it's going to happen, but there you go. Environmental services won't do very much either, they'll only really bother about it if it happens more than a few times. Same with the police, and to be honest, can you blame them? Who wants to be called out in the middle of the night to a load of drunk people to tell them to turn their music down ![]() It is a pain, we've had people in my gran's flat in london banging about on the floor above at ludicrous hours, and the council said there's very little they can do about it You could always hope that they damage your property or something? That way you really could call the cops!

Re: next door is haveing a party...
On my old terrace? I've heard parties go on till 2am and not felt they where being unreasonable. It really depends if it's a regular occurrence or not.
