    stolen debit card details

so i randomly checked my bank account online today to be welcomed by a few transactions that certainly weren't me. they were for prepay phone vouchers. it only amounted to 30 pounds, but i quickly phoned my bank and canceled my card. the man i spoke to also asked me to confirm 4-5 more transactions, 2 more prepay phone vouchers (much more this time) and another 99.99 on something else he didn't have details for, which definitely wasn't me.

so i feel a bit crap, been done for 200 quid about so far, and it was lucky that i checked it today, otherwise a lot more of my money would have gone. the bank man said that one of the worst offenders are petrol stations, clone your card, steal your details etc.

so everyone watch out! i think im going to pay cash for a lot of things from now on, and get a credit card for buying things online.

~ a rather frustrated, and slightly more out of pocket, jack.

someone managed to rack up £4k on a credit card that had a limit of 3k over a year ago.. Not sure why they where allowed to spend so much, considering that card was never left un-paid (had good rewards, but shocking apr!).

The issuer told me it would take about 2 weeks, they'd be forms for me to sign saying i swear i didn't spend the money.

They never sent me the paperwork, and sorted the money in a week.

yeah, someone ordered a kebab from a takeaway shop or something, Natwest stopped my card (well without telling me) i went into a branch, they said someone did an unauthorised transaction and are investigating it and they refunded the money!

i was shocked that it happened to me but glad they refunded the money (hard times when your at school!)

Had it happen to me recently, at quite frankly it cost the issuing bank my business because of the appalling way they handled it, even went so far as to issue me overdraft charges against the fraudulent amount!

I fold for Hexus, do you?

This is whay all of my card based spending comes from a credit card that I pay off in full every month. If the card gets cloned, I still can take out cash.

I had that happen to my credit card once, unluckily for them I was a penniless student with a £500 limit on the card which I had reached the month before. They didn't get a penny and got caught the moment they tried to spend big money.

    Re: stolen debit card details

yeah ive been told im being sent forms to fill in, but i wasn't told that i would definatly get my money back, glad that it sounds like i will!

its just frustrating though, as there is apparently a long backlog of these claims to be sorted, so it could take months!

Same thing happened to the wife last summer. We were going out for a meal for my bday and she went to get money out and bank said she didn't have any. I had to pay for my own food!

Checked her statements and there was a €10 withdrawal (something like £7.30) and then €154 Air France payment. The €10 was obviously a test to see if it worked. She rang the bank (Lloyds TSB) and she was asked several times if she had made those transacations and forgot about them! Kinda hard to forget about things being bought in France when you're in Wales!!

Took about 3 weeks in total, from the time it was noticed to the money being credited back. She had forms to fill in, one was a legal form saying you definitely didn't make the transactions.
