Shaving
Ok had a decent thread a while back that was good experiance information for some of us younger lads.
Unforutunatly for me ive just reached the point where im getting stubble back after shaving by end of the day and almost a beard after 3 days... (used to shave once a week) I have seen alot of people recommending electric razors over what i use now which is a Gillete Fusion thing pretty basic tbh. Problem im having is it takes me quite a few minutes to shave, i cant get close enough to the stubble to get rid of it and my faces aches for about a hour after shaving. So really im asking for advice? recommendations? and opinions of electric razors. Thanks again.

Re: Shaving
I'd recommed checking out these videos http://youtube.com/user/mantic59.
The guy pretty much covers most shaving techniques and razors, hope that helps. |

Re: Shaving
Personally I've never been able to use an electric razor, they just tend to cut my face up and I usually get a perfect shave from my gillette. However, a good friend of mine has exactly the opposite experience so I guess it's all down to what feels right.
A couple of pieces of advice about the other points, always try to shave just after having a shower - the hot water makes the hairs easier to shave. And use a good quality shave gel, I find King of Shaves Alpha Gel to be very good but there are plenty of other brands, try one with aloe or that is made for sensitive skin. |

Re: Shaving
Hot water, really really hot water, if your taps not hot enough boil a kettle.
Face flannel, dip in hot water, soak for 2 min, wring nice n dry, put on face, close eyes and rest for 3-5 min. V relaxing and helps stop the skin been so badly scraped i find.

Re: Shaving
Cut throat razor and lots of shaving gel will get close enough without pulling the hairs. I use nivia gel for sensative skin with a cut throat razor and its never given me any bother. Although if I am going away I just use a cheap wilkonson sword quatrum titanium as a cut throat razor won't get past customs easily

Once in a blue-moon I can cope with a wet shave using wilkinson sword, but generally it destroys my face and just blunts very quickly - even with the most careful pre-shave routine and cocoa-butter/aloe/sivet-cat dropping/whatever gel. |

I've also found heating up the blades of the razor under the hot water tap is a nice little trick

Re: Shaving
I'm not man enough to go anywhere near a cut throat razor under my control.
Yes, if a professional barbers doing it I'll close my eyes and wait till it's all over, but I'd never use one myself as I've too much shakes in my hands and would end up doing a Van Gogh and chopping an ear off or something.

Re: Shaving
There's this proper barbers just a 3 min walk into town from my flat. £6.50 for the hot towel shave, best thing is he is open come 8am, roughly the time i got back from clubbing on sat. Nothing prepairs you for the day like hot towel, strange skin massarge thing (loosen up the skin after having hot towel on it, then pat it down) before my cut throat comes out.
I must admit the first few times that did scare me. But it does make you feal like a new man. Cozwin, consider a cut throat, they're quite easy. Actually try going to a proper barbers and watching how they do it, explain to him that you find your skin is really itchy afterwards and see if the whole hot towel, rub face, very sharp blade thing works well for you.

Re: Shaving
Always wanted to go to a proper barbers to get a hot towel-cut-throat-razor shave.
Might do that when i'm in London in a couple of weeks. |
