Recomend places in UK
I thought I'd ask you all for places in the UK that are good for a day out or a good place for the weekend.
Maybe good cities or places worth visiting or maybe just things to do that are cheap as opposed to staying in and being a hermit to save money. Any ideas? |

Grab a tent, head to the lake district and visit a few of the places
![]() A few years ago we found a camp site with basic ammenties in Hawkshead (toliet and shower which was cold) and we only had to pay 2 pounds each per night and spent the rest on things like fishing trips where they cooked your trout you caught, pub crawls and stuff like that. |

Re: Recomend places in UK
As we're all computer enthusiasts, how about Bletchley Park... while you can, since it's been in the news that it's in a pretty poor state (I'm going there this weekend, as it happens). I did a brief visit there with school last year, and it is interesting seeing the reproduction of Colossus (arguably the world's first computer, used to break the Enigma code) as well as the other old kit like a 1KB RAM module which is about the size of a modern PC case!

Re: Recomend places in UK
It depends on what you want to do, really...and how cheap is cheap. I'd say Edinburgh Festival too, but it is expensive. So I'd probably vote for Lake District for all roundness. York if you like a nice town down in England, and Edinburgh for Scotland. |

Re: Recomend places in UK
York, the history there is unbelievable. Im going down in the next few weeks to stay in cottage with my boyfriend for a week.
Theres a theme park- flamingo land....good for adults and children lots of pubs and clubs resteraunts etc Eden camp - an old war camp that replays the stages of ww2....very interesting!! and im sure theres lots more to do than what ive mentioned, Were were 300 pound for renting the cottage, for both of us. Quite cheap i thought. |

Re: Recomend places in UK
I was going to say Edinburgh as well but was beaten to it! The Festival/ Fringe hype machine is slowly grinding up through the gears but there's plenty of other things to do in Edinburgh apart from the Fringe. Visit the Castle (recommended), climb Arthur's Seat, walk down Leith Walk to the water front, check on Princes Street Gardens, walk through the New Town (amazing the architecture you see hidden away from sight), sit outside a pub a watch life go by. There's a lot to do for not too much cash.
Sticking with Scotland (cause I don't know England very well!) I'd also recommend Tain especially if you like driving around and seeing beautiful scenery. It's north of Inverness so quite a drive away. If you go remember to check out the Glenmorangie distillery. Surprisingly interesting! |

Re: Recomend places in UK
I take the wife and kids to legoland each year using my Tesco clubcard vouchers which in the end costs £34 in vouchers rather than £108 in cash for normal entry fee (or there abouts) for the four of us.

Re: Recomend places in UK
Actually, with the festival bearing, you'd be hard pushed finding a place to stay nevermind at a sensible price in Edinburgh. So even if you do do cheap things, it'll be offset by accomodation.
So I'd say York or Lake District! |

Re: Recomend places in UK
York isn't particularly cheap though, but then I guess not many 'nice' places will be in summer. Camping in Hawkshead sounds ace - I love that place.

Re: Recomend places in UK
The Lakes, or even the Peak District! Depends where you live I suppose. If you live in a more southerly location you might want to check out Cornwall. If you're into camping, you can have a good few days chilling for relatively little.

Re: Recomend places in UK
I would say peak district or london. They both have history and both look good in different ways, if you like maritime history you should go to greenwich or something.
