What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
Besides food and drink... I have a few choices... what would you take from this list? (I could take them all, but it's overkill really lol)
PSP Nintendo DS Acer Aspire One lappy Book(s) MP3 Player Like I say, I don't want to take them all, so which would you take and why - based on what it can do, battery life, space, etc... ! (As an aside - what do you vote as the best 'car sweets' lol - I reckon pear drops!) |

Laptop and then a PSP/DS.
Laptop doubles as book reader/mp3 player and can also play games. PSP/DS for variety. Remember chargers for both if you're stopping anywhere at the other end. Best sweets are mint imperials, or lemon sherberts - both of which I can find in relatively plentiful supply near where I live. I know it's not so easy to find decent ones elsewhere. Personal preference though.

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
Yeah I am thinking the lappy for sure, then I can ditch the book as you say, and probably the mp3 player, although that's small anyway.
Can't decide between the PSP and DS though - too many good games to play on both platforms! Knowing me ill probably have all this stuff then alternate between them each for 10mins, then decide to sleep instead haha |

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
I can't read if i'm a passenger in a car, makes me fell ill.
I assume you don't like speaking to the others that will be in the car with you then. Thats what I'd be doing if I was a passenger for 8 hours. And sleeping, I find it hard to stay awake as a passenger, the noises and movement send me to sleep when i'm not driving. |

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
haha, with the lappy I wouldn't need the playboy mag ;-)
Joking aside, there will be other passengers, family members lol, so perhaps not. @ Funkstar - I know what you mean mate, I think it's the whole looking down thing to read or watch a movie - it makes me feel a bit groggy at times, but 10mins after I'm out of the car I'm fine. No Steve, luckily I am not doing the driving... thinking of which perhaps a few cans might be in order ha ha. |

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
A pillow, laptop, and a various supply of cakes and sweets. Alternate between the 3 = win
In long car journeys i just sleep, makes the time go quicker. A movie would be good on the laptop as you don't always have to watch it tbh.

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
I can only look down for short stints before I feel seasick. The problem (if you suffer from it) is that the motion your ears feel doesn't match up with the motion that your eyes can see, hence the sickness. Look out of the window for a bit and you feel better.
So- personally I'd take the MP3 player. |

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
What you need is Lord of the Rings, Dramatised for BBC radio.
Stick in on the CD player, take one of those nice travelling pillows and get 7 hours and 56 minutes sleep ![]() I actually really like it when travelling, makes motorway driving or being a passenger far more tolerable

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
Music in some guise is essential - luckily I can put it on the lappy, psp or the mp3 player, so somehow i'll definitely have tunes with me

Re: What to take on an 8hr car journey?!
For an 8 hour journey don't bring anything that's likely to distract or annoy the driver or you're liable to get beaten and/or thrown out of the car halfway through the journey
![]() So make sure you have a good set of headphones for all the various electronic devices! And the golden rule is, if the driver wants to listen to something on the stereo, let them. No exceptions. |
