Anything remotely religious proves itself to be total madness.

No, it proves that his specific interpretation of a particular sect of a religion is mad. I'm not sure how you could pick out one example and say it must stand for all religions

As much as that guy in the news is a mad man, I don't think I would be far off in guessing that the only reason you posted this is to provoke some religion bashing. Am I correct?

Great post, not an attempt to carry on one that was closed is it?

As a Muslim who tries to live life by what is written in the Qu'ran.. All I can say is judge a religion by what it is, and not by its followers.

well not really, just think we need more debate.

but i know this is an extreme example from this country, but it does happen in other countries more often.

i dont want to cause an argument in this thread, so perhaps i should have worded the original post a bit less provocatively. and for that i apologise

It proves how mad this bloke is, I've never sat down and read the Bible or any other religious text, a few quotes from the bible were enough to put me off.

Strangely, my first thought on reading the thread title (and having seen "Crystal Skull") was...

Is flogging him really a bad thing...?

That's kinda difficult, considering that religious texts are written in such a way that they are open to human interpretation. Judging a religion "by what it is" becomes impossible with that in mind.

Not really....The fundamental principles of religion do that.......the belief in something that cannot be proven (and in a lot of cases, can be fairly well dis-proven)
