\0/ Woo - Acer Aspire One in the post :)
Woo Hoo, it's finally arrived - the Acer Aspire One... and hopefully I have waiting for me at home a 120gb portable HDD.
Put it in to 'advanced mode' already - got it late last night so that's about all I have done. Think I'm gonna try and install VLC on it tonight... Still seems wierd to be using a non windows PC - first time for everything I guess! Anyone else on here have one? |

I have an MSI Wind / Advent, only really use the desktop for games and photochop now. Spend most of my time lazing on the sofa browsing the net, wife even thinks I'm listening to her!!

Give me a Dell over an Acer anyday . . . .
I did think about getting an EEEEEEEEEEPc but the tag team combo of my HTC + XPS M1330 pretty much covers most things

Re: \0/ Woo - Acer Aspire One in the post :)
I picked one of these up friday. Its great. Very much quicker than I thought it would be. It's a lot quicker than some of my clients old machines. There is now waiting around for it to do something it just gets on with it. Thumbs up to the Atom CPU. I might even try quake 3 out on it for a giggle.
I've already taken it apart to upgrade then ram and stick an apple wireless card in the for erm future software mods . Also in the plan is upgrading the HDD to something bigger like a 250gb of 320gb hdd.I got the 120gb linux version, but stuck a copy of windows xp on it to try it out on that for a bit. I plan on it replacing my Apple Macbook Pro when on the road as I'm fed up of lugging a huge laptop around all day. Next on the list is to find a small case and a spare psu that doesn't take up too much room. PS Bargain price can be found for the Acer Aspire One at PC World. Its £229.95 , but there is a 5% off voucher Minimum Spend: £0.00 Promotional Code: YAWAUG08 Expiry: 31/08/2008 When it expires today replace the AUG bit for SEP and it should work. It's for online delivery only, but if you get a nice manager like I did they will also do it instore! Add quidco for another 2.5% off. |

Re: \0/ Woo - Acer Aspire One in the post :)
Carphone warehouse have neopreme type cases, they do one that the wind fits in perfectly, think they did one a bit smaller. Think the one for the wind is £9 and has a good sized pocket for extras. If you need any extra battery life it might be worth looking at maplins external laptop batterys, I use one with my wind think it gives 5+ hours, costs £35.
If you want a nice small mouse try the logitch nano range, the transmitter is ting and only just pokes out of the usb port. I have one (PC world), and its great. I use a Dell mini pci wifi card with OSX, works great on the wind with xp or leopard

There is a company in the states that do something along this lines for the EEE, but I need to check it out. I've already got a logitech nano. It works great with the Acer. For the wireless card I had a spare Apple macbook pro one lying around for when I upgraded my old MBP and mini to wireless N. So that seemed to be the ideal choice. Interestingly I didn't require any drivers for it. Windows just detected it and installed it with no fuss. Just uploaded the pics I took of the acer and its upgrade. http://www.gordyhand.co.uk/gallery/v/casemodding/acer/ |

That's nothing. Last week, I was given a Texas Instruments TI-99/4A and a Sinclair ZX81 (seriously!). Can't wait to mess about with them. Have bad memories of the ZX81, mind...would sit there for ages programming away, then crash...

Re: \0/ Woo - Acer Aspire One in the post :)
I've not used it much yet - it's primarilly going to be used (hopefully!) as a glorified ebook reader on the tube or on longish car journeys.
Still trying to get my head around the Linux side of things, but there you go! |
