Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
Was at work doing my usual, waving my arms in the air and talking testicles and one of the customers I was talking to while putting her Sky HD deal through said she worked for Orange in town and felt that it might be worth me going in and talking to her boss about getting a job there.
I was somewhat shocked becasue we weren't even really talking about work, upon furhter questioning I was told that once you've done all your training your on £7 an hour !! I was like hmm thats much better than the misserable £5.85 an hour I get in Curry's for working my testicles off for very little financial reward on 30 hours a week and being treated like a free slave. So I am now contemplating doing the above, I actually quite fancy working in a phone shop, it's a product I really enjoy learning about and fiddling with and I also really want to get out of Curry's and away from my current useless boss. Not only that, there's commission on top of everything sold and the working hours are more agreeable (mon - fri and some sats I'd imagine) being 9 - 5 unlike where I currently am not knowing what my shifts are going to be one day to the next. I realise that yes there is always going to be targets to meet in any sales job (5 years in Curry's has not been kind to me) now I'm either being very blind but I'd say selling a phone contract is a bit easier than trying to get people to part with money on an overly priced telly. In my book it's certainly worth a look, even the work mate who was stood next to me said I shood look into it for that kinda money. Anyway just curious to know if anyone here knows what Orange are like to work for ? She did paint a good picture of what it's like from her perspective but I'd like to hear a few others before doing anything. Don't want to go out of the frying pan and into the fire. |

Re: Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
Sounds promising..
Worth going to have a recce round that branch yourself? (or send an undercover mate.. ) If your problems with Curry's are partly branch-oriented, your useless boss etc., it'd be good to know how the people & set-up over there compare. Even if Orange turn out the better company to work for on paper (& pay better), day-to-day working environment is a big factor... should be an ok place by the sounds though, or your customer/Orange woman wouldn't have said positive stuff about it. How long is the training; did she say?

I work for Vodafone coming from a Chef background. Best move I have ever made!
We get a few people coming from Currys and Comet joining Vodafone. Its a fun job and tech on mobiles is always changing so it is interesting if you are into new stuff all the time. |

Do you get to do those pointless Orange commercials at the start of cinema films?

Re: Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
or it could be this theory of mine..
that woman was only painting a good picture of working at orange, so when you go around and apply for a job she can then leave and run away happy, because she had tried resigning but the boss has declined it saying she cant go until they have someone else to replace her in that job, and thats where you come into the picture. you apply for job, she says "look, here is someone else, can i go now?", she leaves you get the job and end up working somewhere that could be worse than where you are now. *as stated, this is just a theory. it could end up being a brilliant job, go check it out* |

Re: Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
I'd be careful this time of year. A friend of a friend got a job for orange, they let him work until just after the christmas period and then let him go.. But that's not really too uncommon I suppose.

Re: Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
Hardly, especially when she came in with her husband and children, she was quite fit actually, but thats a thread for another day.
That did go through my mind about her wanting to leave finding a replacement etc, thats something I will have to be mindful of, but I just feel that I've given my best to Currys (I've been saying this for like the last 2 years) and am not seeing any benefit of my hard labours at all. |

Re: Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
Go in and speak to manager of the store and see if there are any permanent vacancies is your best bet. Normally we get our Christmas temps in around mid November and they usually work till around mid January following year. So it is still a bit early for temporary staff over the busy period.

Re: Anyone here worked in an Orange store ??
a couple of my friends work at a 3 shop in town. i dont think its quite as relexed as in orange as you described! one of them appears to be good at selling phones and gets a lot of money from it.
