Talking Help me (and HEXUS) make some friends

It's Friday so you're all feeling cheerful, I hope.

In the midst of silencing the buzz, I have a couple of requests for you.

First, Digg users among you please make me your friend. That way it's easier for me to go "OMG look at this amazing news we did" or whatever it is these social network types say these days.

Secondly, you'll note the HEXUS.hardlines sidebar (if you have it turned on) now lists Digg links. We need you to click these so we can share our content with an ever-growing audience. So when you spot something interesting, please Digg it up.

I've coded it to only show the Digg button on stuff that's already been dugg. That way the sidebar isn't overcrowded with Diggage and we can set the ball rolling on stuff we think the Digg crowd will like, then you can do your bit.

And this is also an opportunity for me to test a new feature we've installed on the forum to make people to read a certain thread. Don't worry, we won't use it often - it'll be for important announcements occasionally, but primarily we'll use it to ensure that new people read the rules, and are aware of certain useful pieces of information. (No more "how many posts for an avatar?" questions, we hope!)

Feedback is always welcome, and your support very much appreciated.

    Thanks all!

Previous attempts (from OiD, etc) to generate interest were met with lukewarm responses and unfulfilled promises. So, sorry, been down this route (Digging) before and the lack of participation from other visitors prompted me to delete my Digg account.

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

I just believe I had my browsing hijacked. But I love the new sidebar, one problem I always had is I tend to hotlink just to the forum, missing out on news. I do this on most sites actually, except for a few where the front page content is more interesting than the forums. Now I can have the best of both.

And also, I've never used digg :/ I don't really know what it's about, so can't really help there...

Re: Help me (and HEXUS) make some friends

i might not want a new friend, especialy someone with the same name as me, i feel odd calling other people 'steve'.

i already digg though.. just haven't done so for a while but am starting up digging again..

should we start digging threads from the LinkBack drop-down box, or shall we just stick to the main hexus.net stuff?

Clicky links for new folk.. Post count and other rewards...general info.. guidelines..

Who am I to tell you what to do (apart from when it's which threads you really need to read )?

If you want to Digg a thread, go for it. However, if it's a thread about an article on the main site, please Digg the article itself.

    Gracias!

As soon as I find out where to setup a digg account I'll happily do anything that helps Hexus.

Steve, is there any chance of altering the priority of the sidebar Diggs? Right now there's a several seconds delay whilst those Diggs are being processed. I rather like having the siderbar available but if browser performance is to be hindered I'll have to turn it off.

Using IE7 on Vista by the way.

My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Um, I think he was being humorous.

The bit about Stalin and Germany kind of gave it away what with Stalin not being German and all.

I'm afraid I know nothing of this "Digg" of which you speak but I think the idea of forcing people to visit a thread is excellent. As you say you're not going to overuse it so I hope it will prove to be very effective.
