So, I haven't got a good torch in the house!

I know its not a huge thing, but I was wondering if there are any suggestions on a good torch which will last. Iirc my bro had a maglite torch which was badass, but he doesn't live here anymore (and of course took it with him).

So, apart from maglite, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Yeah, ledshoppe as Clunk says, or the 99p store/Poundland. I love cheap LED torches (in fact I've always loved torches since I was a small boy) and have several, my favourite is a Poundland one that's far brighter than a Mini-Maglite and runs off one AA battery. Admittedly it took several goes to get one that worked but the Poundland staff were quite accomodating. I also got a headlight for a pound that works really well.

I bought this a few months back for my security job. I have to say I am very very impressed with it. I did have a 6D cell size maglite. However, it became a pain to carry lol (keep it in the house now. But that LED Lenser Police Tech Focus Torch is good. Very bright!!! Bit like having a spot of day light on an object!

I bought a torch from LEDShoppe. Works perfectly well and was about £6 delivered (came within a week or so).

At these prices, it's hardly worth buying a 'good' torch.

There is one thing that you can guarantee with a torch, and that is the fact that as soon as you actually need it for something the batteries are dying (if not dead) and that you don't have any spares.

If it is for occasional use then go for a wind up one - at least you won't have to worry about the state of the batteries when you need it.

Re: So, I haven't got a good torch in the house!

People get all worked up about torches. You can quite literally spend anywhere from £1 to £1,000. The trick is to decide what you want it for and then look for a quality LED such as Cree.

I bought one of these about 5 years ago. It's pocket sized (1xAA) and normally rolls around the car or my bag. I'm sure that it is available cheaper than this, and there are 100's of chinese knock-offs.
    http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp...ferrer=froogle
It's more than bright enough for indoor work or peering inside dark cases or cupboards, and is almost industructible. If you want something that will scare the birds from the trees or project a spot on the moon there are a wide range of 'tactical' lights to choose from.
NB having one with a flat tail-cap for candle-type action is very useful.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

+1 windup torch, when the power fails / car breaksdown at night it's a bit hard finding batteries if you need them

Re: So, I haven't got a good torch in the house!

Depends how much you want to spend, and how often you want to use the torch. For an emergency torch something running on 3V CR123A is handy as they have a low discahrge rate, standard AAs tend to go flat before you next need the torch. If you do go Aa or AAA then hybrio type low discharge batteries are good, I use these in my monster nighti n to day torch.

My choice for a good cheap emergency head torch would be the alpkit gamma.
    http://www.alpkit.com/gamma/
very handy to have in the car, if you do breakdown and have to walk the rear battery box has a flashing red LED, givs the car drivers something to aim at.

A good all round torch would be a fenix P3D, built like a tank, uses CR123A so good as a grab and go. lots of light if you need it, but can be turned down to save juice when you dont.
    http://www.fenixtorch.co.uk/led_torc...ix_p3d_q5.html

If your handy with a soldering iron and want a powerful torch than you can do maglite mecano, I have a ROP that is handy for lots of light.

which is rather nice - has three modes - full brightness, low brightness, flashing. But the neat bit is the focusing lens (which slides up and down) which lets you get a nice wide beam or a very focused one. For the price it's rather wonderful.

You ratbag - You've just made me impulse-buy one, along with a 'bike light' clamp (probably for my old torch, now), 8 rechargeable AAAs and a charger.
