    Ebay Con artists.

Well, I've always had the view it was more hassle than it is worth to sell hardware on Ebay and I've just confirmed this.

Sold my old CPU an Athlon64 3500+ on there for £10, The guy sent me an email saying that he was desperate for the part to fix his PC. I posted it to him ASAP then get an email from him saying the performance of the CPU is no good and it causes his PC to freeze after 20mins. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it, I only changed it because I wanted to upgrade to multicore.

well, In future I'll stick my old hardware in the bin and save the hassle. Seems I was right to think it was more hassle than it was worth.

True, I hate selling hardware on eBay. I always have a no returns clause in the listed item, but some people are only too eager to try it on if they think you'll not want to risk your 100% rep.

Usually the ones that got an absolute bargain.

Selling on Hexus you may not get as much as you would on eBay, but on the whole you are dealing with friends.

    Re: Ebay Con artists.

I've not sold anything on Ebay for a good while and was surprised that it is no longer possible for a seller to leave negative or neutral feedback.

I personally think, the guy had a duff CPU and was hoping to send me his broken one back for a full refund.

Unfortunately when I did some tests on this CPU the outcome was dissappointing.
Whilst the tests (Using 'CheckIt Diagnostics') confirmed the CPU speed as described, within industry standards any way, very little else was great.
The Central Reg, Calc, math performance all showed poor results.
You will have noticed that using this CPU causes a computer to hang after about 20 mins of use and leaves the video picture totally frozen.
Would you please arrange a full refund
Naturally if this all goes smoothly I will be happy to leave +feedback.
Personally I find his tone and attitude rude or is it just me ?

I agree Oid selling on Hexus has been easy and with less hassle - Mainly I think because of selling to Computer orientated people and not a person that thinks he knows what his doing but, general knows nothing.

    Re: Ebay Con artists.

Did you test the CPU before you sold it?
Did you note any of the identifying number's on the CPU down?
Do you have pictures to prove this?

You could ask him to send back the faulty CPU, BEFORE you offer a refund. If he does and the numbers dont match up then you know.
If he avoids the subject / suggestion completely then something obviously isn't right.
As him to take a screenshot using CPU-Z or something similar that may list identifying numbers/ infomration about the CPU.

You will have noticed that using this CPU causes a computer to hang after about 20 mins of use and leaves the video picture totally frozen. - This line alone suggest's/ states to me anyway, that he thinks you were aware of the problems with the CPU and still sold it.

To me, it sounds as if the guy is trying to push his luck.

Probably, it's why when I did sell on ebay I would not manufacture codes etc and retain the original box, as if someone tried it on I had the original box, receipt and proof of the matching CPU going out, and they are sending back a duff one.

Failing that I think buyer beware comes to mind, not your fault he isn't happy with his purchase, maybe suggest he researches the performance of parts he plans to buy in future more carefully

And suggest that RAM incorrectly installed to be a problem, get him to send you a 7 day Prime95 CPU and RAM stress before you refund...then he has used a fair whack of elec to get it

Ebay is okay, as long as payments are made through Paypal you will be protected. Did he pay you before you sent the goods out?

I've just sold my Dell Mini 9 on eBay, and despite saying in very large lettering. Will ship to UK only, the winning bidder is from Latvia.

    Re: Ebay Con artists.

Personally I think that either he was going to send back his dead CPU and hope I didn't notice or he has discovered that a new CPU won't fix his PC so decided he wanted his money back.

The CPU was in perfect working order when I removed it from my PC otherwise I'd have just thrown it away. Just bugs me that his attitude stinks really.

The way I read his email was "I bought an AMD 3500+ and it does not perform like a new Quad core - I'm unhappy" If he knew about PC's as he claims he would or should have know what the performance would be like. He bid on it, so he obviously thought it was worth £10.

I just refunded him in the end and told him to keep the CPU, I can't be bothered for the sake of £10

Funnily enough when he bought it he was asking for it in a hurry as he wanted to fix his PC - Now he tells me his PC works fine with the original CPU - I'm confused - I thought you only Fixed broken things? otherwise you upgraded ?

    Re: Ebay Con artists.

This story reminds me why I have never and will never use eBay. It's great when everything goes smoothly but you have to ask yourself if it's really worth the hassle? I have tons of hardware rotting on my shelves in case I or my friends need spares (8800GTX, 4870, Q6600, RAM galore...). The hassle of boxing things up and sending them for a few pounds is too much effort in my books.

Your fault for allowing bidders to bid from outside the UK then There are settings to forcefully stop certain ebayers!

I think what really takes the biscuit is that it is no longer possible for a seller to leave anything other than positive feedback for buyers! So they can be a serial bad buyer with 100% feedback, Great huh?

Still fighting with the Latvian. He's being a real PITA. The SSD sold separately, if you're interested in the Mini 9, PM me, and you can have it for the winning bid.
