    Question Hexus.Question Time . . . what to do...?

The fate of the Question Time section on Hexus is currently under review. That is, should it be amalgamated with GD or left as it is... what do you think?

The original point was to discuss the serious pithy topics of the day, but it's so unfrequented & unloved

I vote merge, since there is a fair amount of serious pithy topical discussion in GD anyway.

I say merge! Hexus has too many sub forums, it becomes annoying trying to navigate and deciding where to post a new topic!

We only need about 10 sections for this entire forum IMO.

I would say "Leave it where it is", but you are right, it isn't used much. But then perhaps there should be more effort made to move threads there if appropriate.

Like this one from Saracen: Should any topics be taboo for science?

    And possibly this too: Fatties.

Which I put in GD precisely because most things in QT pretty much die straight away.

I would prefer a proper debate forum, and after all, QT was my idea after running (with another guy) the equivalent form on another site, until I left.

But QT will only work if people use it, and by and large, not many people do. Also, QT was originally separated out from GD because GD was, to put none too fine a point on it, a bit infantile. This is all my opinion, of course, not "official" policy, but in my time at Hexus, it's distinctly matured, probably as the average age of the members has matured. It was rather dominated by .... erm .... kids, but those kids aren't kids any longer. And those that are seem to adapt, and adapt well, to a GD that is, in my view, very much more mature than it used to be.

Put simply, I think the original point in having QT at all no longer applies. We just don't need it, since we quite successfully have both serious debates and lighter chats in GD.

My vote = merge them. But if the QT regulars have a firm reason for not doing so, I'll certainly listen.

    Noli nothis permittere te terere.

I think if we renamed it the "Titties 'n' Beer" section it might get a bit more attention

You could have banter for all the messing about, and then moderate GD so that it remains relatively mature.

We had Banter, and it became too anarchic & unruly so it was canned.

Personally I can't see why you need to have a separate sub-forum for serious discussion. It's fairly easy to see which threads are meant seriously and which are just general banter, and the Hexus mods are very good at keeping the serious ones on topic and leaving the more informal ones alone anyway.

As has been said, I think the Hexus community is largely mature enough to keep to the tone of conversation, so a separate forum for 'only deadly seriously debate plz!' is a bit unnecessary, I reckon
