People have a tendency to throw themselves in front of trains round here, but there have been a couple of road deaths recently in the area.

Take care on the roads! Especially in this icy weather!
Actually according to those statistics, you should be more careful in "fine" weather!

Basically from what I'm reading if your:
    Male
    17-25 yo
    Driving a car
    In "Fine" weather
    On a Friday/Saturday/Sunday
    On an A road

    Your as good as dead!

In all seriousness though, do take care. I've head just one to many close calls recently!

Looking at the stats around my area it is no wonder women get better insurance - each year it was around 80%/20% male/female

That's one of the problems with statistics, people can read them wrongly. It's like counting the number of people that died this year with the name John, and comparing it to the number of people that died this year called Murray (values for John would be higher because it's a more common name) and from that deciding it's safer to be called Murray than John, when obviously it makes no difference.

To make a fair comparison between the weather conditions you'd have to take into account the amount of driving done during those conditions, and get a value something like 'number of crashes per mile driven' for each of the weather conditions.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

Re: How dangerous are your usual roads?

I can't leave my house in either of 4 directions without going over several speed humps.

So its pretty safe around here, except in winter when the numpty's don't know how to drive carefully.

Re: How dangerous are your usual roads?

We've got a bad road next to us, longish straight road that numpties love to speed down joins traffic coming out of an estate, my father in law was hit by some 19yr old idiot speeding in his new car daddy had bought him a few months before. Father in-law's car spun round on the spot, the lads car literally jumped a large road sign, ended up 30m down the road against a tree, on it's side facing the direction he'd come from.

You know what? The police couldn't prosecute as they forgot to take measurments of the skid marks/etc also meaning my father in laws insurance were funny as they said it could have been his fault.

At least there are no fatalities on that road according to the map, suprised as there are accidents all the time!

Yep, my mates on there, just up the road, i drive past the spot everyday , really hits home when someone you have known all of your life becomes a statistic...

On the way home tonight it had been snowing all of 5 minutes and there is a car upside down on the verge with an ambulance just arrived

The roads around here are fine no matter what the statistics say. It's the brain dead spanners that "drive" on them that make them dangerous.
